ya all of that, I do have 3/3drawer dressers 1/ 2 drawer and several crates. each drawer has a different color in it. crates have UFOs and projects, all sorted out. I also went to joanns and brought back those cardboard things and anything that is over 2 yards is on one of those. I have a 2 drawer dresser for large cones of thread. spools are on a rack on the wall. I have limited space and the drawers are stacked on top of each other.

I do all of the above...I keep things together that are for one project. I keep the stash by color. The smaller, scrappier fabrics are neatly placed in baskets, somewhat by color....

Larger pieces by color (and some by type like hand dyes and batiks). Fat quarters in a flat tray basket arranged by color so I can see what I have. Smaller pieces I roll up with the raw edges inward, tie with a piece of inexpensive ribbon and stuff into a basket (again, so I can see what I have). Good luck with your organizing. Saves a ton of time later when you "just know" you have that special piece of fabric somewhere, if you could only remember where.

I keep my fabric by general color, the theme stuff is sorted by color also, but has it's own place; I use that fabric mostly for fussy cutting

I recently went through my large collection of fabrics and re-organized them. I refolded them, put them on shelves and in baskets according to colors, some by themes, flannels on another shelf. I put all Christmas fabrics together in one see through tub and all my batiks into another tub. Fabrics that are for a specific project I put into plastic project bags or see through boxes with the pattern. I need more shelves in my closet for these projects. Most important, I got rid of a lot of "ugly" fabrics, scraps etc., that I KNEW I would never use, and plan to give them to a group that makes charity quilts. Amazing how I can get to my fabrics more easily, and now I also know more of what I have.

I wrote a post "Where I Sew" on my blog:

I do mine by color but I have it in a tub. My stash is getting less and less. Hurray!!

I just FINALLY got my sewing room to where I can at least walk into it...Most of my fabrics/projects are in storage tubs, but at least I know where they are at. My mom's sewing machine is up there, and I need to give it a good oiling, but it's ready to go!
