I purchased 6 old grandmother's flower garden blocks from a garage sale many years ago and have finally figured out how to put them together and am wondering about how to quilt them? Does anyone have any suggestions?

When my MIL made the Grandmother's Flower Garden quilts she did echo quilting 1/4" inside each hexagon.

I also am curious on this...I am about half way finished hand piecing a random patch GFG for my daughter...

That's how I intend to quilt mine, when I get to finish it.

That would be my suggestion.

Also, Stitch in the ditch, 1/4 inch around each piece. I also saw somebody that quilted overall circles..

I'd love to see some pictures. I betcha those open spaces are screaming for some feather wreaths and scrolling and whatnot.

That's the traditional way of quilting it... and IMHO it always looks marvellous.

I will have my daughter get a picture, I am completely dumb when it comes to computers and pictures.

what is echo quilting?

So many terms to learn for a newbie.
I have made a few of the different patterns but have not finshed a quilt as yet.
Also I need to try to find machine embroidery icons
relating to West Virginian and WVU to make quilt squares.
I purchased a book with CD for quilting in the hoop.
I would like for this to be a surprise for hubby.
I have searched numerous embroidery sites and found one
outline of the state.
If I do find one how do I send it to my machine? I know I
use the Jef file. I can't ask for hubbys help or it would not be a surprise.

I would echo quilt too :D:D:D

Echo quilting might be said to remind one of the ripples that form when a pebble is dropped into a pond. It is equally spaced lines of quilting that more or less follow the shape of whatever is being accented in the quilting design.
Like, around a leaf or flower or dresden plate, one might stitch lines 1/4" apart going out from the edges of the piecing until they intersect other lines meeting from other elements of the quilt piecing.

One response I found, was to quilt inside each hexagon. I was afraid of that as my hexagons are about 1 1/2 in! Another woman told me she quilted the edge of each ring. I tried that and it was okay because the flowered fabric camouflaged the stitches (or lack of them.)Each of my flowers has solid rings around them so I did quilt those hexagons and the pattern looks nice.
