How to quilt this ... ideas?

1 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone! It's been a while since I have posted. We have had such a beautiful fall, that I am having a hard time staying inside!!! Those of you who have long cold winters understand!

I've been trying to figure out (for about a month now) how to quilt this together. I have orange thread that matches perfectly and was thinking of doing circles all over the quilt. My other option is to do use the orange thread and do feathers in the dark blue spaces.

Or just use a dark blue thread (so no stitching is visible) and do SITD ...

Other ideas? I'm sure there are lots LOL ... and I'd love to hear them.

Thanks in advance!

My eyes see it with quilting a 1/4" in from every seam - orange on the orange and blue on the blue. Maybe double on the center and four rows in the large blue centers at the edges. At that point, I'd observe whether it needed more quilting. It is a fascinating quilt, for sure.

I think you could really do either and if you want your quilting to show use the orange thread. Feathers would look beautiful

I would probably just quilt it using dark blue thread, just doing FMQ.

BTW it is beautiful.

A lovely quilt for sure!

I'm not good with your question but I love your quilt. My method has always been hand quilting but I'm learning FMQ- so I'm very new at this!
Charisma has quilted for me and she sometimes uses same color thread for the sections. It looks nice.

I'm thinking i might use the orange thread and handquilt using the "big stitch method" ... I need something to work on while I am watching the hockey games LOL

While reading an article on this subject, the author used a piece of wax paper over the area and used her fingernail to draw on the wax paper. You could use a wooden dowel sharpened like a pencil. Draw several areas using different designs. When I look at the large blue area, I would draw half of a circle to meet at the edges of that area and then fill in with 1" echo. See how that looks to you. You could still do the big stitch method after you decide what to quilt. When you break it down to sections, then it doesn't seem so "big" and will make it easier. Have fun with it.
