How to quilt this ... ideas?
1 Attachment(s)
I am all ready to quilt this, but I haven't a clue! I'm quite a bit more comfortable doing FMQ, nothing overly elaborate, but I'm up for a bit of a challenge.
Part of me thinks to just do stitch in the ditch since the pattern itself is so striking ... but, I'm open to ideas! Yes, there's a mistake in the top right, but, I've already fixed it! Thanks so much |
Nice quilt

Love the design and colorway of your quilt!!
Perhaps a simple large scallop from one corner of each block to another? |
I might SITD between the squares and then quilt inside the squares with something easy like loops or ribbon candy in matching thread colours.

Oh lovely!
I'm a big fan of combining quilted concentric circles with geometric piecing. |
can see why you are having problems with quilting design! Gorgeous quilt and I'd want to emphasize both the piecing and the fact that it's kind of a medallion due to color placement. So maybe do something in the dark blue in center and outside corners and then do something more curvy in the lilac blocks? Not sure what though.

There are 8 “lines” that go across each block large. Down the middle both ways corner to corner, and then at 45 degrees to those. I think I would stitch the ditch around each block and then across each of those lines. Depending on your batting that may be enough.

What about a spiral starting from the centre out?
|
I would do one design in the purple and another in the white. wonderful quilt!! OH, i just read the spiral suggestion. not bad. that could work well.
draw out the quilt and then practice designs on it. or print photos and use those. good luck. |
Beautiful - but I can see that it would be difficult to decide on a quilting pattern. I'm thinking something curvy since it's so geometric. Maybe consider the exact center of the quilt as the center of a flower and quilt concentric petals moving outward?

So the first thing I did was SITD around the "squares" ... and now I have two ideas ...
or this is what it looks like from a distance or something completely different? |
I would have done a curvy overall design, because the piecing is so angular. Baptist fans, spirals, clamshells, paisleys, etc...

I'd stitch in the ditch, including the diagonals.

Beautiful Quilt!
The one thing that comes to my mind, is that the quilting won't show on the dark fabric, if you use a dark thread. So if you didn't want to distract from the quilt design, you could just do all of the quilting in the dark fabric. On the other hand... if you want to show off some spectacular quilting, you'd work something in the cream and lt. purple areas. That's where I draw a blank. I like to put a clear plastic sheet on top of my quilt, and doodle on it with a dry erase marker until I like what I see. |
