You can also cross hatch - draw a diagonal line from corner to corner both directions then using those lines as a guide sew parallel lines about 3" away from the first ones. That makes diamond shapes in the quilting which looks cool.

I've made a few quilts for Quilts for Kids and I've done some as Dina said and some using the cross hatch.

Really cute quilt. I know some child will love it.
This is what I do for Quilts for Kids as well. They feel that is 'heavily' quilted and are very happy with them. And I use my regular machine; no walking foot and don't have any issues.

I tried cross hatch with 1 inch blue tape on a sample piece and it was fun to do. I think that is what I will do. Thank you for all of your help.

Hello and what a nice donation. I think If it were me, I would stipple. You can run with it and have fun.
Our guild made baby quilt donations to a local center for parents in need. It is a really cool concept. They register with the center and earn points. for every class, video, and lecture they attend, they go to they earn points and have the oppurtunity to shop in the store. They earn points for attending church, volunteering in the store and more. They can purchase diapers, food, quilts etc.We made over 35 for the center and it was really gratifying.

With the cross hatch, you may want to try a wobble stitch. Use the zig zag with a very small width and the length you would use for your cross hatch. It gives an interesting finish and you won't notice any wobble that you may make. I learned about this from Sewing with Nancy.
