how to quilt this top?

I just arrived here and I have the first question already ;)
This is my second ever quilt that I am making. The first one was just squares and stitched in the ditch.
With this one I decided for a disappearing-nine-pattern (SO much fun to make!). It will be a sofa quilt for my mother. The background will be navy blue fleece.

So now I am trying to decide how to quilt this. I want something more than just in the ditch this time. I can't do FMQ yet (don't even have a presser foot for that^^). So I am looking for something with -more or less-straight lines.

Thanks for all ideas :)

You could do diagonal lines going thru the big and little squares either one way of both ways. Once you have your base lines stitch, then you can figure out how many lines fit evenly between the base lines. You do realize that FMQ foot is more like a darning foot and it is normally in a shape of a circle.

Thanks! Yes I know there is no special foot just for FMQ. but i only have a normal foot plus a walking foot :) no FMQ with these :)

Cute D9P! Straight line quilting on the diagonal would look nice.

I love diagonal lines. Very classy imo and my go to if I think nothing else fits.

Very cute quilt! Simple vertical straight lines 1" apart would look great, using your walking foot. You can also use your walking foot to make gentle vertical wavy lines which look great on a geometric quilt like yours. Have fun!

Thank you all so much!
Hmm those diagonal lines look great!
Another question... how do you mark those lines? Do you mark them at all?

I found the niftiest clear ruler in the office supply department at Walmart. It was exactly one inch wide. Also, a good yardstick will help keep your lines straight. Because you have so much dark fabric in your quilt, use ordinary white chalk. Welcome to the board. froggyintexas
