I managed to get gum on my husband's quilt.

I have tried ice, warming it from the back with an iron, laundering it. I have managed to remove a lot of the gum, but it is still there.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
Janie

Goo Gone works really well for removing gum from fabric :D:D:D

My daughter got gum in her hair once and the babysitter recommended spraying "Shout" and I was able to get it all out . Maybe try that! I hope you find a solution and it comes out. :(

I used peanut butter on the kids hair but that might stain the quilt.

I would do this also.

If goo gone doesn't work you can try breaking down the gum with oil then use Goop to get the oil out. You might even have to use a little Goop to get the Goo Gone out. I usually do. Just rub a little in the oily spot and wash as usual.

I forgot to say that if you use oil, make it a light mineral oil, not cooking oil or car oil and only use it on the gum spot with a q-tip.

Be sure and tell us what works. Is that a little optimistic?

I would keep using the ice, the idea is to get it really cold so the gum freezes and will pull right off.

? Gum sticks to gum. ?
Got another stick?

This may sound really dumb, but what about freezing the whole quilt instead of using ice. It can't get any colder than that...then you may be able to flake it off with a knife or similar tool.

THIS idea sounds really cool !! - No pun intended, but it seems like a logical solution..

I would suggest freezing the whole quilt too. Hope it works!

It's not dumb at all. It's the first thing I tried. :-D

The freezing and the ice are the least effective. Iron heat from the other side and hot soapy water are the most effective.

Tried using sticky tape to pull it off. Not very effective.

I have gotten rid of the majority of it, but not all so I will keep trying.

I am on my way to Canadian Tire to find some Goo Gone.

It's not my quilt so I can't try some of the things I would like to (like a blow torch!) if it were my quilt.

Thanks, everyone for all your suggestions.

I was so happy to come upon this site! My mother who had been visiting from out of town didn't realize she got a wad of gum in my beautiful hand made quilt!! It was thin and very dried in the center of the quilt by the time I found it. I was desperate to find a solution to remove the gum without ruining my quilt. I read the different suggestions. I tried the shout because I had it handy. It worked wonderful without all the scrubbing fuss!! I saturated the areas and let it sit on the sites a few minutes and used a thin metal spatula. I used pulling up motions and it rolled right off!! Thank you so very much!!!!!!!!
