How To Repair Batting?????

Rhett, my male lab, decided last night it would be so much fun to grab hold of the batting and start flipping pieces of it over his head! I leave a large amount of backing and batting hanging out just in case there is a mishap. My problem is he was able to pull some of the batting away from the edge of the quilt. Can I cut a small piece and sew the edges of the batting by hand to repair this? If I don't overlap the edges too much I shouldn't have a lump in that particular spot should I? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think that should work just fine. I'm sure Rhett thought he was helping in some way.

I think hand sewing it would be fine -- catching it when you add the binding should reinforce it as well, but I would attach the piece first. You have to love those labs -- they enjoy helping!

Rex just had a little lab-work to do last night. Sorry, couldn't resist. Good luck with the mend.

Oh, those crazy "kids". Absolutely attach the piece first but it shouldn't change the structural integrity of the quit at all.

i had my little Boston Terrier Dog think it was a good place to scratch and make a bed on the batting i was attaching to my quilt frame. lucky i saw it before it was attached. so i took some Batting seam tape and ironed the thin places together and that worked i am so glad i had some Seam tape on hand.

If you butt the edges and loosely stitch them together without an overlap, it can be quilted over just fine!
Wish I had a "helper" - really miss having a dog.

I have pieced batting together using a loose whip stitch--just but the edges together without overlapping. Many others say they zig zag pieces together but I have not tried it.

Here is where the adhesive spray would be useful....just spray and repair and then quilt.I use Sullivan's basting spray from my local Hancock's.
