Maybe it is obvious and I just don't get it. Sorry for the question but I need some help in understanding how to do this.
Do you flip the template over, turn it around or turn the material inside out to make the cut?
I would appreciate some expertise information. :-D

you don't say what design template you are using.

I should think that turning the fabric inside out would get a mirror cut.

If I'm wrong, somebody chime in and correct me.

Yes, the type of template might make a big difference. All I was thinking of was a lot of big stars I'm cutting out for a kids' lap robe.

I bought a pattern that tells me to reverse a few of the pieces and I made templates out of plastic. On the ones I am to reverse I am not sure how to place it on the material to get my reverse piece.
I am not sure what you mean by the design template.

Stacking your fabric wrong sides together will give you a reverse effect. Also depending on the template turning it over will do the same. ie: ( --> <---- )

No, that was my thought too, put it on the back (wrong) side of the fabric.

Thanks for all the info. For some reason it was confusing to me, but this helps a lot.
