Can someone direct me to where this answer might be, I am new to quilting, making a baby blanket, and want to square the blocks before sewing together. Thank you. Lou

Put squaring a quilt block into google search and lots of instructions come up.
|
If the block has a diagonal seam, I use that to square it up. Match up the seam with the correct angle on my ruler and make sure there's enough room (not cutting off too much). Cut and then turn 90 degrees and make sure it's still matching the line. Cut and so on. If there's no diagonal seam I use the straight seams and try to keep it as parallel as possible.

Look the whole block over, don't be tempted to just cut on one or two sides of it.
Try and not cut too close to points, you will lose them in the seamlines. You may want to take in or take out a seam(s) where points can be blunted  Sometimes it may be better to ease them in rather than trim them down :D:D:D |
amma, don't we have a tutorial on this. I remember, somewhere in my mind, seeing photos. ???? I will look in search but you have a photographic memory and I don't mind if you find it before I do. :)
On Edit: This one is good (and has a video): http://www.quiltuniversity.com/squaring_up.htm I found the reference in http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-39236-1.htm |
I like to have a square ruler the size I need. Line up the center points and then trim all 4 sizes. I don't do as well when I have to use a regular ruler and turn the block.
