How to use fusible interfacing
 

Hello from Texas; I am new to the boards postings. I am presently working on a memory quilt for my son who is in the Army. I am using some of his T-shirts that he has outgrown and was told to back them with "French Fuse". I'm not sure if I should iron the interfacing with the stretch going the opposite way of the shirts or the same way that the shirt stretches. Also, when I apply it to the back of the shirt, should I use steam or dry iron? I have googled it and it explains to do it both ways. I really appreciate any help I can get. Thank you.

Yes, opposite and no steam. Also VERY IMPORTANT to wash the t-shirts (before you cut them to size) and don't use fabric softener or dryer sheets. It coats the fibers of the shirt and causes the fusible interfacing to come loose. Ask me how I know!!! I ended up having to HANDQUILT the one I made for my son because of this. Trust me, you DO NOT want to handquilt a t-shirt quilt. It's like trying to quilt plywood. Just saying...

The t-shirts have been washed and had been hanging in his closet since he left for the military. Now, it's time to get busy and sew, sew, sew. Thank you.
