I just finished a quilt for my granddaughter using the clothes that she wore during her first year. I wanted to wash before giving it to her, but there are two big pieces of dupioni silk in it; do you think that I can wash it on gentle, cold water, and use the dryer? I don't want to ruin that gorgeous part of the quilt.

do you have any scraps to experiment with? I'd try little patches with backing and batting put together into a sandwich, then try your methods--make notes

i use alot of duponi silks! i have not had any problems with laundering the quilts that contain the silks, they wash up and stay beautiful!...the only problem i've ever had using silks in quilts is they do tend to fray alot, so it is important to make sure the seams are well-made...i use a 1/2" seam instead of 1/4". other than that i've had no problems

That's quite reassuring about washing the silk; I think that I will jump in and try it! Thanks!
