How wide
 

I would like to applique a vine and flowers around the border of a quilt, how wide should the vine be? I have not cut the borders yet.

the vine should be as wide as you like- and it probably depends a little bit on how wide the border will be- some vines are made quite thin (1/4" or even less) some are up to an inch wide and look quite good- it all depends on your preference- the size of the flowers, the size of the border-the size of the quilt itself-there is no hard & fast rule- maybe you should take a piece of scrap fabric and cut various widths of bias strips maybe 1/4", 1/2", 3/4" & 1 inch and play with them a little-decide what works for you and your project.

If you don't want to waste fabric just cut various sizes of vines from paper and place on border to see what they look like. It is your quilt, do as you wish.
