How would you lay out this signature quilt?
3 Attachment(s)
I’m looking for help in how to layout a wedding signature quilt. I have 75 5-inch squares that have been fussy cut and signed by the wedding guests. I also have a mickey/Minnie panel that I am not sure I want to use. This is a gift for my son and DIL and will be a surprise on their first anniversary. They are Disney fanatics. Got engaged there, honeymooned there… I don’t think they will want to hang it or use it on a bed so I am not bound to a specific size. I am open to all options! I certainly have more fabric to add if you have ideas on how to make this more creative. I HAVE looked on google and pinterest but nothing has really “clicked” to my liking. Any thoughts will be appreciated on a good way to lay this out. Should I frame the squares? Leave as they are? Which direction should they lay? Etc. etc. If you have a photo of one that you did that would be GREAT!!

"… I don’t think they will want to hang it or use it on a bed " Don't be surprised if they are disney fanatics. Pick their favorite color and sash them with that solid to reduce busy-ness and build unity. Or if you have a great disney boarder printed in rows to use in sashing, frame the blocks in that favorite solid and sash with the disney row print. Just a thought.

Here are a few layouts I like....
(1st photo a short way down the page) http://talk.sew-whats-up.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=5012 https://occasionalpiece.wordpress.co...uilt-for-lora/ https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...b104f20935.jpg |
See if any of these layouts would work for your blocks.
https://www.google.com/search?q=sign...w=1014&bih=600 I also would suggest a wall hanging quilt over bed then it won't be washed as often. |
It looks like all the blocks are quite bright, I might use a small black sashing between them for a kind of stain glass look. I would use Minnie and Mickey for the back and surround it with black fabric.

I agree with the sashing - a solid color would add a little calm to the quite colorful array. Then decide if you want the signature angles to be the same or alternating.

yep, it looks great so far. If black is too dark you can pick a lighter color. just some separation is good.

I like the black and it made me think about "film" layout--with the different blocks as the photo in the film? I know there is a quilt design out there that looks like this--and if it's going to be a wall hanging you could add some pictures of them into the "film" also.

I like the black and I like how the name strips are arranged so they make a secondary design.
