It's a great quilt top!

I'd use the red thread for the border and the variegated for the blocks.

As for the quilting: I'd probably stitch in the ditch along the zigzag and use a rather dense design (be it squiggles, pebbles, loop de loop or even straight line echoing) in one of the fabrics. For example in the top left block, I'd quilt the print fabric densly while leaving the solid red without anything. That way, the darker fabric stands out more and you get kind of a 3D look (if you look at a picture of a mountain range for example, the darker mountains are closer, the lighter ones further away).

If it was mine, I'd want to highlight my piecing of all of those points, which could be done fairly simply with stitching in the ditch on them, then stipling somewhat densely on the outside of the motifs and then do something simple on the inside like the suggestion made by LindaM which you could do a point to point echo on the inside of her motif to just amp it up a little. That way, you would have a really interesting backside of the quilt too. I think varegaited thread would look really nice too. I also like Vitality's suggestion, because it also highlights your piecing and for a novice would still be quilt doable. For the border a cross hatch is always nice and it's easy too.

I really appreciate all the input. I helped define a direction. I decided to stipple in the "in between" areas and do straight line FMQ in the main design, after doing a FMQ stitch in the ditch around it. I decided after stippling at about a 1/2" density that I needed something more dense in the centers to balance it. It's not perfect, but I have a lot more experience on my new machine as a result. I really enjoyed the stippling on my new Pfaff and I think that part turned out pretty well. Now to get the binding on tonight because I leave to take it to my mom tomorrow!
