How would you quilt this?

I am not an experienced quilter so it would have to be pretty simple. I am just totally stumped as to how to go about this one (color of thread....everything). Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Since the back is yellow I would go with a light thread colour. If you are not confident with your FMQing, then straight line quilting with a walking foot may be an option. If it was my quilt, I would start by outline stitching around the tin men with yellow thread. Cute quilt!

I would echo quilt with a pale yellow or white.

I would stitch in the ditch around the robot (?) and then you could try to crosshatch. That is when you stitch diagonal lines. Mark your first line diagonally from corner to corner and then mark additional line (can be any width between the lines) on either side. Stop stitching before the robot and continue on the other side. It should not take you very long to do. Use a blue or purple be gone found at your LQS or JAF.

There's a cute idea on this blog, looks like they hand quilted a heart on the tin man. I like the idea of a crosshatch around the men. http://nanagirlquilts.blogspot.ca/2011/01/tin-man.html

I agree. Crosshatching is very effective around pictures.

Instead of crosshatching ... I would use straight vertical and horizontal lines with each quadrant handled separately. So top left and bottom right quadrants to be quilted horizontally and top right and bottom left to be quilted vertically. SITD around each man. I would use white thread.

Thank you all for the ideas. It really helped. I liked the heart, stitching around the men and then doing the crosshatching.

Or even a small applique in one tinman!

I would love to know how you did your rose blocks if you would not mind sharing?
