I have the last quilt my DM was working on before she passed away a few years ago. It is half quilted. The design isn't marked on any of the remaining quilt. How would you transfer the design to something to use as a pattern. It is all beautiful hand quilting. I don't expect my half to look like hers, but I do want to finish it. I am open to suggestions! :-P

how about placing tracing paper over her finished side, trace her pattern, and do a mirror image on the other unfinished half..

I really don't know, but it is wonderful that you have such a treasure to finish.

Have you seen the thin yellow paper used in quilting? I can think of the name of it right now, but you could trace through that. Some quilters draw the design on that paper and quilt right through the paper. they then remove it when the quilting is finished.

OMG that would be hard. There's no way to freehand it? Or would it need to be traced like the above boardmember said. Good luck whatever you decide to do...

You can trace over the design on tracing paper and run the design through the sewing machine (without thread lol) and then put the holy design on the quilt and use chalk powder over the holes. I would only do one at a time, the one you will working on.

Can you photograph her side, scale it to life-sized and trace it from the resulting photo?

If it looks like it she may have been a stencil...then you may be able to find one like it by putting a picture on here of the design. I know that I have several designs on the plastic template material that are 20+ years old and others might have some too. Worth a try anyways.

Would you be comfortable with taking, clear shelf liner, or thick baggies and using a washable marker to trace over the pattern then copy on what ever you normally use to mark a Quilting line?

how about press and seal plastic wrap and trace

This is what I would try, first.

Maybe trace it on paper from your first Press & Seal tracing, so that when you go to make another Press & Seal overlay, the designs will be the same.

If you're good with computer graphics programs, you could scan the designs and reduce them to line drawings in Paint Shop Pro (or Photoshop or whatever) and print them out to trace on Press & Seal or to mark stencil material to cut stencils.
