My granddaughter is 5 and she loves to help gramma "quilt". so far she has sewn buttons on fabric and glued fabrics together. She really wants to sew like gramma but i say she is too young. How old do you think she should be before she uses a real machine?
This is wonderful but before you do anything ensure that her parents are okay with this plan.

I began sewing on a machine at age 6. I would suggest teaching her to do some hand sewing and join the pieces together with needle and thread. I taught my granddaughter to iron at age 8. But I would hesitate to start a 5 year old with an iron.
