HST - Border or not?
1 Attachment(s)
Hi All
I Finally got my Scrappy HST top assembled. It is about 44 x 54. I intend it to be a lap robe. But need some advice on Borders. 1. No border 2. Single lite border 3. Single dark border 4. Double lite (narrow inner) / dark border (wider outer) Thanks. Mike |
well, it doesn't scream for a border. but if you want one, you could add one the size of your hst's. looks great as is too!!
i like no border

I'm the opposite of Gale. I almost always like a border. So now it seems you can do whatever you like. If it were mine, I'd make a thin dark inner border and wider light outer border.
I am also in the border camp. I think it needs dark to frame the quilt.
It's great. I would go with a light inner border, and a darker one on the outside.
i like i t the way it is

I vote for a border -- I would probably do a light inner border (narrow) and a wider, dark outer border. Love the look of the HST's
It doesn't need one but a light inner/dark outer border would frame the luscious HSTs.

I love that! I generally prefer borders and usually do a narrow, then a wider one. I always "audition" border fabrics because sometimes I find a better option than my first thoughts. Another alternative would be to do a flange binding. I think maybe a brown flange and green or tan binding. Be sure to show us what you decide!

I think quilters are way too hung up on borders these days. I like your quilt just the way it is.
Honestly I would add a scrappy binding and just enjoy this lovely piece. Can't live with a scrappy binding? choose one of the colors that pops out of the quilt and use it or make it .... black!. Nice use of HST and scraps! Two of MY favorites!
I would add a border for two reasons - you want it bigger, or you want one of the colors to dominate. Those are generally the only reasons I will add borders. If neither applies, then no border is fine. If this were my quilt, I would probably "big it up" with the orange or the bright blue.

How pretty! Love your top!! While this doesn't need a border, I'd probably put one on simply for the utility of it. If it's for a lap quilt, hands are going to be touching all those seams that may come apart with wear. I'd go for a darker outer border--again because of being handled and possible soiling.
no help here....but I luv it so far!!!
Well, I think borders frame a quilt. I wouldn't hang a bare picture without a frame on my wall or sit it on my dresser. So yes, one or two borders in various sizes would help this quilt. I'm thinking you should try a thin light border than a darker outer border.

Just love the wide range of ideas you have received. Makes it difficult, right

Love your colors, Mike! I'm a border person and like a very narrow stop border with a wider border, then narrow dark binding.

I'm not a border fan, however, I would put one on this quilt because the light HST in the bottom left corner makes it look like there is a piece missing from the top.
Yes, I agree with light inner and dark outer! Great way to show your fabrics! Its very nice.
If I liked the size, I would just bind it with a dark color
I like the bright colorful quilt top......my opinion is that I think it's big enough for a lap quilt and should only have a colorful binding added......a color that is in the quilt top.........

I'm a border person for this quilt. Lots going on in the quilt, so a border might give your eyes a place to rest.
I agree. I love this quilt! Honestly, I thinking borders would detract from these beautifully placed, vivid colored HSTs. I think I would use a thin black binding, only. No matter what you decide, it will be great!
Well, when you ask for opinions here, the cup runneth over! ;)
My vote is for a dark narrow border and a scrappy binding. |
I think a single light border and a scrappy binding would be nice.
I agree with Boston1954. Lite inner and dark outer. I think it would set it off beautifully and anytime I can go for a darker outer border I do, for practical reasons.
