The size you get after sewing all the HSTs is a bit over 6.5", 6" is the finished size in the quilt after seam allowances. So you need to trim them to 6.5".

I really don't understand the big deal about a 7/8" measurement. It's just a measurement on your ruler, like any other.

I also have trouble with HST when I draw a line diagonally across then sew on both sides. I now cut the block to the next whole number then draw line diagonally and cut on line. I put two triangles together and sew, most of the time very little trimming is needed. Works best for me

LOVE Triangulations software. Easily loaded onto your computer, it will enable you to print any size HST's from 1" to... whatever will fit on a sheet of printer paper! Also flying geese. I buy newsprint, either as doodle pads @ the $1 store or, if I find it on sale, by the ream.

I'm also a huge fan of Bonnie Hunter and her patterns, so have and am comfortable with the Easy Angle ruler. Less waste using it, that's for sure.

If there are only a few needed, I just draw a line and sew them. There are many ways to make HST's, I'd suggest you try a few of them and find one that works well for you.

Just do a rough calculation before you start cutting so that you are sure you have enough fabric. Not all kits are cut or put together by the same person. In the two Craftsy kits I ordered, the amount listed was exact to the 1/4 inch. I was lucky that I did not have to straighten the fabric because I needed every single inch of it. No extras at all. It would be a shame to get to the last row of squares to be cut and realize you are short by an inch or so.
