Thank you for taking the time to share the tip with the illustrations, that is so helpful.

This is a great idea, but I am confused as to what to use for the seam line: the one on top (the smaller piece) or the seam line on the bottom one, that is, drawing a new 1/4 " line on the top piece which would be 1/4" from the bottom's cut line?

When I have triangles like that, I sort of compromise - I "average" out the seam allowance for the two pieces.

Since it's going to be trimmed anyway, I use the larger one (in this case the one on the bottom) as the guide.

I have a sordid history with half squares. I think your tip may help me identify my problem. Thanks

Wow, I have never heard that before but it makes perfect sense.

Mine always seem a little off, maybe this is why! Thanks for the tip and sketch!!

Quiltngolfer 05-25-2017 06:41 AM

Interestingly! I've never tried it that way. Thanks.

This tip is a keeper. I'm always having trouble matching stuff!
