I was shopping at some thrift shops today and found a huge treasure at my favorite Goodwill. I found 3 complete quilt kits, including the patterns, all of the material and the backing. One kit is for a foundation pieced lap quilt, one is for a magic stack and whack quilt, and one is for a star quilt. The magic stack kit was put together by the prior owner, and even included the $19.95 "Magic Stack Whack Quilts" book. I can't even estimate how many yards of material I got in the kits, and it is all high-quality material. And (drumroll here) the total cost of all three packages together was around $12!!!! :-D Whoopie!! Even my DH was excited when I showed him my treasure. I really appreciate that whoever decided to give up these planned projects bundled them all together in useable kits, and I have lots of thankful thoughts for this unknown angel.

Fantastic !!! I love a good treasure hunt especially when it has a happy ending.

I find goodies like that here at our local Goodwill. Bags of fabric, yardage, threads all at next to nothing prices.

Nice find. Have fun making them.

Good for you and your treasure finds. I am so jealous. I hit our local thrift stores here locally and have come up with some good finds for pennies -- like a designer handbag or expensive clothes but have never found fabrics or quilt books. I wonder if it's because we have so many quilters in my area that quilt related stuff either never gets to the thrift shops or others beat me to it.
I'll keep looking. You'll have to show us the finished quilts (or even just the kits).

Same here. I have never found anything sewing related other than small bags of assorted notions - really old reels of thread and zips etc., and equally old patterns. Maybe I am just not hitting the right stores.

Those kits sound like a great find. Have fun with them :-)

We have no Goodwill stores around here but if I ever come across one, are they arranged so there's a particular area to search? I'm always happy to read about the great bargains many of you have found, especially love seeing pictures of piles of goodies. Maybe someday it will be me!

Pam 07-06-2010 08:45 AM
