A lot of us have seen this post and would very much like to have the directions. The poster has tried her best to translate using Google translate and some of us have tried other on-line resources but its just not able to give us the meaning of some words. Can you help, please?

I used Google translate as well. A couple of time, Google suggested "did you mean......" and I clicked on that. It gave a slightly better translation, but still not adequate, in my estimation. I'll be watching this to see if anyone comes up with a solution. I just love that folded Dahlia!

I thought that tutorial had great pictures (they enlarge when clicked) and really demonstrated the technique (sort of like the instructions found in Japanese quilting magazines).

Reminds me a bit of Jenny Rayment's (from the UK) fold and tucking technique.

However, should anyone be able to translate it, I would really.really, really hope they first contact the original author to ASK PERMISSION to PUBLISH the translation, with all credit going back to the author.

Sometimes those annoying little details get overlooked. ;-)

Does Tothenci speak Hungarian? She has posted several times and lists her location as Hungary. Maybe she could help.

I believe so but doesn't seem able to translate all of it. She did try but came up with the Google version. Or maybe she doesn't know English very well!

MTS - perhaps we could go to the blog and ask their contact person if they can do an English translation. I'll see what I can find out.

I didn't try and read after the translation in the blog post. I think it is all in the folding. What a neat project. When you all figure it out please post pics!

My point was just that even if the Google translation to English was sufficiently readable, it would NOT be alright to just PUBLISH the translation on this site or any other, even if the original author was given due credit.

That's all. There's a lot of copying and pasting of things from other sites, and it's really not kosher. Even if credit is given. ;-) And clearly this lady has worked very hard on her tutorial - even if it's not her original idea. I would hate to see that get lost in the translation, so to speak. ;-)

Always pains me to see people ask to "borrow" patterns, etc. I'm sure you've had that happen many times, too.

But are blog tutes like this not public domain? What about ones by quilters eg: Kaye Woods, Sharon Shambler, etc? We are free to download and use them. And I did not see anywhere a price to buy the tutorial. (But then it IS in Hungarian! LOL Many of us have passed along a tutorial or other info from such information for the board members

Downloading a copy of a .pdf is not the same as re-publishing those same words on another site/publication.

Putting the link to the article or instructions in a post - perfectly acceptable.

It's funny because on another IB site (owners of the QB), the moderators are all over that issue- if someone reposts an article from somewhere else, it immediately gets changed to a link. I think it permissible to repost the first few sentences but not the entire content.

And again, I know that in an era when everything is so immediately available it seems that it's there for the taking, it isn't.

It's okay to post the translation of any word but not post the whole pattern translated. So the words giving everyone trouble it's okay to post what they mean in English.

I tried using a different translating program.. still a bit scatchy. I have translator, push come to shove, I can type it in that....

I'm reading with interest as this topic never ceases to end. But....isn't this a lady just giving out her pattern to anyone who reads her blog? That happens all over in American's blogs? So what would the difference be other than having to translate it into English?

I agree. even without translating it I think I could have figured it out because you can pretty much use any size fabric squares you want! Look at the pictures and go with it! Its like learning to read....Look at the pictures and make up a story! lol

I'm making headway "translating" it, but when you are folding petal 1 to ? join? tuck under? petal 2 where do you sew, or do you? Do you flip petal 2 back over and stitch?

Kitsie, you have driven me crazy...have been looking for online translators to help... did find that instead of trying to do the entire webpage it was easier to do it in text sectons...

I don't know if part of the translation showed up but if it did you will see that not all words are able to be translated and some words that are translated are hard to understand. From what I can understand Hungarian is one of the hardest languages to translate from English.

I tried installing a language translator but couldn't make the darn thing work. I am not that computer savvy but thought it wouldn't be that hard....WRONG!

I tried several translator sites and the only one that helped even a tad bit is the one I listed above.
Also learned you might need to add the hungarian languages tab under regional languages (depending on what system your computer was running) but then was unsure if that would work from hungarian to english.

I am stumped at this point so I'm hoping you're having better success than I did.
