Hunters star need quilting suggestions

1 Attachment(s)
Hi there I have just started making me this king size red and tan hunters star. I have a ways to go yet , but already looking for quilting suggestions always planning ahead? Any suggestions would be a big help

MargaretH 12-18-2016 08:02 PM

Very pretty. No quilting suggestions. I always get stumped on the quilting.

Lovely blocks! I would plan a big design for the 4 large triangles that make a square, maybe another star. I would SITD the other formed stars and echo the v shapes between the star tips.

I google and found this idea... what do you think? I hope it opens for you

Hazel B (my mom who just passed in November) Always wanted a red and white quilt and she wanted a hunter's star too. She loved quilts but didn't do much because of living in El Paso, TX.

That is really pretty. I like that it is all red and white, but the reds are different. A hunter star is on my bucket list, but not for a while, I already have too many projects going. However you quilt it, it will be beautiful.

What a gorgeous quilt!!! Love the reds.

I love your piecing so far! I can't help with a quilting idea but you're wise to be thinking ahead. Please show us what you finally come up with.

This going to be beautiful. If your have a quilting program mycreativestitches.com has patterns for all sizes of the Hunters Star.

grammasharon 12-19-2016 05:27 AM

No quilting suggestions but love your quilt.

I, too, have made a very large red and cream Hunters Star Quilt. It is one of my favorites. I sent my quilt to be long-arm quilted. I just chose an overall pattern and it looks fantastic! Good luck!

Love your fabric choices.

I like this idea! I have no specific suggestions for the 4 large triangles though. I also wanted to tell you how much I love your quilt so far. Can't wait to see it finished!

That's already gorgeous and going to be really spectacular when you're done!

This blog post inspired me to make my first HS - she has this and a couple of other HS showing the quilting she chose http://mmmquilts.blogspot.com/2013/0...for-paula.html

I would love to see a picture if you happen to have one?

I am super new to quilting but my first thought was circles in the diamond sections and SITD on the rest. Beautiful quilt!

117becca 12-19-2016 03:31 PM

beautiful!!!

Elise1 12-19-2016 05:44 PM

I love your quilt, it is really beautiful. What method did you use to piece it? I hope to make one soon.

I used Deb Tucker's rapid fire template

lynnie 12-19-2016 07:31 PM

no help from me, but i just want you to know how beautiful it is.

Oooooh, I love how you've handled the fabrics in this one, very appealing!

Your quilt is amazing... I love the 2 color choices. I made MSQC's version of hunter's star last year in scrappy colors with tans. I quilted it FMQ allover with leaves and berries. I chose this quilting design because it reminded me of nature and added some curves to the very straight lines of the hunter star.
I quilted using a tan colored thread, which might work well for your colors. Perhaps something a little darker than your tan fabrics, (Khaki maybe?) so it doesn't show up looking white on your reds.

jmoore 12-20-2016 04:46 AM

Your Hunter's start is beautiful...I usually google to get ideas from other quilts of similar patterns to see what might fit best...sometimes it's helpful, sometimes not. We will definitely want to see photos when you've finished it.

red-warrior 12-20-2016 05:28 AM

Beautiful quilt! I too will watch for ideas on quilting!

carolynjo 12-20-2016 06:24 AM

I love your quilt! The varying shades of red add so much interest. I would google that pattern to see what others have done.

rj.neihart 12-20-2016 06:29 AM

Probably have your idea already. Being a hand quilter, I would do the shadow quilting on this one. Very lovely design btw!

Bjbaxter 12-20-2016 10:56 AM

Love Love Love it, but I also have problems with how to quilt things, though I am sure someone on this board with have a good idea.

kittiebug 12-20-2016 01:44 PM

Love your colors , I quilted mine all over . Pantograph use a pattern not to small but full .

Greenheron 12-20-2016 02:12 PM

Since lots of hunting happens in the woods, how about leaves in the large triangles?

Sew Freak 12-20-2016 03:23 PM

no help with suggestions but it is very pretty!!!

patti p 12-20-2016 08:35 PM

Thank you for all the lovely comments , I'm thinking maybe a flowery feather like design and echo the star ?
I have a ways to go in making it to a king size quilt!

patti p 12-22-2016 01:52 PM

i have a few more blocks made getting closer to my big kings size.

Becky's Crafts 12-22-2016 03:42 PM

Beautiful!!! I don't have any ideas for quilting it, but it is spectacular!!

JanieH 12-29-2016 08:56 AM

Love your quilt! I just got fabric to do one in yellow and white. Yours is really inspiring me!
