My husband has had a very rough year having been ill with congestive heart failure and recovering from a very serious auto accident with a semi. His family is scattered around the country. I have been trying to think of a special quilt that will somehow involve his family and friends. He is a musican, guitar player, and I have some good guitar fabric I can fancy cut up for some blocks. I am pretty new to quilting though and can't seem to come up with anything from there. Something with pictures? Signatures? It needs to be something that I can easily get to people through the mail and back to me, as well as something fairly easy and fast. Can I have people digitally send me signatures or pictures?

A Snowball pattern really lends itself to fussy cutting and there will be room for signatures for the block makers if you want to do that. And it's easy.

You could make up blocks with a white center - send them out for messages . When you get them back make sure to heat set the ink

Or they can email you pics and you could print those out on fabric

How thoughtful to include family and friends

I think a picture quilt too. Get some photos of his parents, brothers, sister, wife, kids, grandkids. They sell the photo cloth at walmart. They can e mail you pictures and you can print them out on the cloth.
