Husbands and quilting - a funny

My husband is very much an enabler, and also shares my passion for vintage machines. So when we made a trip to St. Louis to pick up a machine, he was fine stopping at Missouri Quilt Block Company for the afternoon.

He had a lot of fun, as most of their stores also had a vintage machine or two, and he loves talking machines. We were at the "main" store and while I was looking at fabric, my husband was looking at some of the vintage machines around the store. They had a back room where some women were sewing, and several old machine in there, so he walked in and started chatting with them, having a good time.

Imagine my surprise when I found my husband taking to Jenny Doan about her vintage iron collection!

How fun-ny!! Interesting too! Should've gotten photos.

Cute and fun. Definite keeper on the husband.

ManiacQuilter2 04-20-2015 01:16 PM

I agree. Any man that can entertain himself in a quilt store is a keeper.

Great story

You are a lucky woman!

Stitchnripper 04-20-2015 01:55 PM

Sounds like a lot of fun!!!

meyert 04-20-2015 02:06 PM

did he know that he was talking to the quilting queen???

#1piecemaker 04-20-2015 02:59 PM

Sounds like my DH. He love talking quilts!! If he only knew how much he doesn't know about them! hahaha!

Macybaby 04-20-2015 03:17 PM

That was the funniest part - DH had no idea who she was. He loves talking vintage sewing machines with anyone that will listen.

barny 04-20-2015 03:22 PM

That is funny. It's even better that he didn't know her. But he was sincere talking to her. I'll bet she appreciated his sincerity.

coopah 04-20-2015 04:26 PM

Wonderful fun! Hang on to that man! My DH has also learned to chat with people, also. Nice when they do that...allows more shopping time! :D :D :D

This is wonderful! When we were there Jenny and daughters were in Utah...... We still had a great time. Love these Dakota men!

Oh, how funny!

I can't take my husband into a fabric store without spending more than I wanted to. He is so bad about saying "look hunny how about this fabric", or "this one would make a cute baby quilt".

madamepurl 04-20-2015 06:47 PM

Great story! He's a keeper for sure.

twinkie 04-21-2015 02:19 AM

spaghettimom 04-21-2015 03:49 AM

Nice story and you are a lucky woman to have a hubby who enjoys your hobby.

maryfrang 04-21-2015 04:52 AM

Jenny is a really friendly and social person. Great to talk to her.

MargeD 04-21-2015 10:59 AM

He's definitely a keeper.

Carol34446 04-21-2015 03:26 PM

How Sweet, bet he had a great time too. How much material did you come home with???

sylvia776 04-21-2015 04:23 PM

Wow! What a keeper! Wanna swap?

RedGarnet222 04-21-2015 04:35 PM

OMG! He is a keeper for sure.

jmoore 04-21-2015 06:11 PM

my husband is always amazed by the many quilters and how popular quilting is but he would have no idea who Jenny Doan is. LOL

misschris 04-22-2015 04:53 AM

I have a husband like yours. Mine has an eye for fabric. I would never have dreamed that in retirement we would be sharing his interest. He recently went with my to a quilt show. Of course the place was bombarded by women. Most of the men there were looking like they were bored silly. Not my husband. He totally enjoyed every minute of it. It's great to be supported in this hobby. I'm sure most husbands do, but most from a distance. We recently visited Hamilton also. What a great experience.

My husband always finds some one to talk to in fabric stores and quilt shops. He comes up with ideas of things for me to sew for him. Our youngest son is following in our footsteps. He called me from Hobby Lobby to ask how much material to buy for a project he planned to sew.

You just have to love this guy!

Oh what a great husband! My girlfriend is going to Missouri Star Quilting shops today. She called me about an hour ago to tell me where she was. She is really a talker and it would be the cherry on top of the sundae if she gets to see Jenny.

chris_quilts 04-22-2015 11:54 AM

Have to say, my hubby slept when we went there. In his defense, he worked the night before. He also told me to spend whatever I needed to because I was buying fabric for my mom's quilt. So I bought lots of yardage only to go with a pattern that uses just an 8.5 inch square from 80 or so different fabrics. Poor planning on my part - I totally admit that.

I did talk with jenny. What a great person - hoping to get back there this summer to hit more than 1 of her stores.

Chris

LadyElisabeth 04-22-2015 02:13 PM

Isn't it wonderful to have a husband that is interested enough to go with you and "do his own thing?"

kat13 04-22-2015 07:09 PM

I used to love to travel, especially when you can take your time and stop and see whatever u want, well my hubby will not stop! It's hurry and get where you're going!! He is fine with me quilting and bought me two featherweights! So it's not all bad!! But I have to do all my shopping online cuz when we go to the big city, it's see the dr and hurry home!
You are so lucky you can go to shops etc! I learned how to quilt watching Jenny's videos!!! Would be awesome to pop in at her shop!!!

Billy'swife 04-22-2015 10:19 PM
