I;m just tickled pink.I wanted to make the Blowing Bubbles pattern in the Mcalls magazine, but couldnt figure out how to make a template[I cant draw a circle for the life of me].So I went hunting,my corelle plates are the exact size I need, including the quarter inch.Wont get to work on it till this evening but then look out.

Necessity is the mother of invention. I dug up an old compass from my husbands engineering tools.

Good idea

That is so funny! I just got done using my white corelle plates for a scallop border on a quilt. Dinner plate on the outside curve and dessert plate on the inside curve. I am going to invest in the nice scallop border tool that you use with your rotary cutter soon.

The other day my sister was going to throw out a card board circle about 12" around and I told her to give it to me never when might need it LOL

I always check my cupboards when I need a circle template & always fine something that works!

When I use to sew all my clothes, I always useds bowls and saucers to hold down the pattern on the fabric for cutting out the pieces. That's what Grandma did.

Everyday household items are excellent sources for quilting tools. Glad you found the perfect item.

Great find...never can tell what uses other then cooking plates are good for (cooking, what's that?)

I used a mixing bowl for a template last night. I needed a 7 1/2 inch circle and the bowl was just the right size.

Cups, bowls, plates, cookie cutters, the kitchen is full of templates!

needles3thread 08-03-2011 09:16 AM

eastermarie, my mother used knives from the kitchen to hold
down the sewing pattern pieces instead of pinning them when cutting fabric.
(the ones you eat with-not sharp ones)

I use plates often, gives a nice edge for using the rotary cut too.

This topic gave me a chuckle :D 'cause it seems that if anything gets used in the kitchen lately, it's for the sewing room ......
