I am a convert to binding

I have moaned and groaned on here for years about hating binding and ruining my quilts with bad bindings. I would get so frustrated I would be in tears.

Last three quilts....bindings are perfect!!! Miters are perfect!!! I am so proud. Starting using Charisma's magic binding and changed a few things.

Here are my changes, in case there are others in my old shoes

Squared the quilt, really really squared the quilt. At the corners, put a little dot of glue to hold all three layers together at the corner so they don't shift. I suppose you could serge it but I am not that into binding!

Used Magic Binding Technique.

I was using way way too much glue. A little dab will do ya. I was applying the glue to the quilt. Now I apply alot less glue to the inside of the binding about 1/8 inch in. No glue squirting out all over or getting between the batting and the front. This was truly a duh moment!

I changed the way I did the corners on the back. Now I sew off at the 45 degree angles and measure the fold so I know it is 90 degrees. Duh, I did not realize the way you did the back, made the "fold" on the front go naturally the opposite. I was trying to make the front fold, forcing it, some times even backwards, instead of letting the fabric do its thing.

I press the binding away from the quilt back. Then starting at the miter, fold it over one side at a time pressing and measuring so I know I am keeping my 5/8 inch, fold the next miter and glue. Steam it.

Then I start at the intersection of the piping at the one corner, SITD to the intersection of the next miter. Stop, lock stitach and do the next side.

Amazing that once I "got it", it is so so easy!
