well past time to change my needle. it's making that annoying sound, nagging me to give it a rest. it's slightly bent so i have to thread it the hard way instead of with the auto-threader thingie. but i'm determined to get another 1,000 miles out of it. don't ask me why. i have plenty more. just being stubborn, i guess.

sewing along. machine hits a pin. wham! blam! it's jammed into the bobbin area.

mumble, grumble, expletives deleted. out come the tools. take a deep breath and dig the durned thing out.

i'll be hornswaggled. the machine is even running more quietly than it was before. the needle has stopped making it's "change me NOW" noise. and i can thread it with the thingie. and my tension has improved.

it pays to let strangers into traffice during rush hour. even if there is a giant truck snorting at your bumper trying to bully you into move along.

:-P

LOL! Just the other day my 19yo dd was telling me about this website she had found about southern sayings. She said she was stocking up on them for when she spends the summer in Pennsylvania. So she was telling me all the ones she had read there that she knew from hearing me say....then I told her "Well I'll be hornswaggled!" I thought she was gonna bust a gut laughing! She was driving and had to pull over. Said she had never heard that one before was I sure it was southern? Puh-leeze! I grew up hearing my Grannie say it! So it was funny coming here and seeing you say that! I'm so glad your machine is ok too!

CHANGE THAT NEEDLE NOW!!!! It is just as important to change needles regularily as it it to clean the lint out. :D

Reminds me of something that happened to me.
Years ago I had chronic neck pain for months, some days better, some worse, but never gone.
Then I was in bad car accident, transported by squad to hospital with brace and head taped to board cause I said I had chronic neck pain. Checked me over, gave me the OK and sent me home. All my friends kept saying in a few days it will catch up with you and it will really start to hurt.
Good news, neck pain went away and never came back.
I called it Traumatic Chiropractic.

Gramof6 05-05-2010 07:28 PM

I'm glad nothing more serious didn't happen! Yes you were very lucky. I'm soooo badddd about not changing needles like I should. And I always have some on hand. I wonder why we do that? It's gonna bite me one day & I will deserve it.

My machine makes a noise when the needle gets bent, after a while I change it and noise stops. I wonder if there is any damage done using a bent needle. I sure hope not, my other machines don't make a noise.

patricej 05-06-2010 06:59 AM

it didn't happen because i hadn't changed the needle. it happened because i was sewing over pins. the dumb luck part of the story is that hitting the pin straightened the needle and knocked off whichever infinitesimal burr had made it dull and noisey.

i've had to dig pins out of my bobbin area many times before on many different machines over the years. nothing new about that. this is the first time it ever renewed a needle. usually breaks them. i'm also fascinated by the quieter run and better tension. those two must be my imagination. i guess. who knows.

craftybear 05-16-2010 11:17 PM

oh no, did you get your machine running smoothly again

patricej 05-17-2010 01:52 AM

i'm an old hand at digging pins out of my machines. it's running just fine. no damage. just a reminder that i push my luck.

one of these days it'll run out.

dsb38327 05-18-2010 09:44 AM

:D Pointing my finger at you. :D

grammo013 05-18-2010 04:38 PM

Glad to see I am not the only one that sews over pins. lol

reach for the stars 2 05-18-2010 04:43 PM

Well if that don't beat all.

craftybear 06-17-2010 11:55 AM

don't sew over pins! your machine doesnt like them

patricej 06-17-2010 12:05 PM

my machine will just have to get over it.

when i pay that much, i expect obedience.

grammo013 06-17-2010 02:20 PM

That's what I said Patrice and so far he's behaving very well.

patricej 06-17-2010 02:30 PM

dunster 06-17-2010 04:04 PM
