I am a newbie to Quilting
 

How do you transfer your pattern from, I guess tracing paper to the quilt after you have traced your pattern and are ready to put it on the quilt so you can stitch it. Please send me a tute. I have never done this before.

Depends on the pattern, you can use tissue paper, you can stitch through regular paper with an empty needle and use pounce powder. If using stencils you can use pens, pencils, or pounce powder, just be sure to test first. There are lots of methods, you just have to try them all out to see whats easiest for you. If you have never done it I would suggest practicing first before doing your quilt.

There are some information on such sites as www.quilterstv.com There have been quilt magazine articles written from time to time but don't have any of them at hand now. There is a book "Quilting the Quilt" that discusses this. Look for the book Mastering Quilting Marking. It is listed on amazon and ebay.
Stencils are probably the easiest if you are new to quilting. Companies such as The Stencil Co may be able to help. There are stencils on line that will give you ideas of what kind of designs are available.

If you use tracing paper be careful of what type of ink you use on it, even permanent sharpie can have color get locked into the stitches. I use golden threads paper most of the time, but if I run out regular tracing paper works ok. You just have to be more careful tearing it off, it can pull stitches loose a little if not careful. I have used the water soluble blue pens & micron archival pens for marking on the paper and both have worked well. Stencils can be pricey, so I usually get most of my fmq patterns from the internet, print on EQ7 and trace onto the paper. I have not tried pounce, but have found that most of the chalk markers hav trouble coming out in the wash. Just my experience.
