I am so proud and chuffed

I have a Patchwork class that I hold every Wednesday in our local village hall, it has been going for nearly 2 years and one of my ladies has a lot of health and pain problems and finds quilting so therapeutic. She has been doing lovely work and her family are amazed and very supportive. Anyway one of her GD showed such an interest Ceri put together a starter quilting set from an old sewing machine to FQs and Rulers. To give her additional support I have put together a pre-cut D9P kit and will send her it next week. She is only about 28 years old so it's great to have a new young quilter joining us all. I feel so chuffed that I have spread the love of quilting to yet another generation.

That is a wonderful thing to do, for both of you. Quilting and sewing is an art that should not go away. So hugs (()) to you and anyone who helps the craft go on.

What a wonderful thing for you to do!!!!!

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 08-11-2013 06:50 AM

How nice! (I'll admit to having to look up "chuffed". We Americans don't always speak English all that well!)

MartiMorga 08-11-2013 07:16 AM

Love to hear about a new sewer, especially a young one! Good for you!!!

Where I live we would say, either "chuffed" or "made up". It means, really pleased.

jhoward 08-11-2013 07:42 AM

Aren't we quilters always happy to have another one hooked on our "craft". : )

CoventryUK 08-11-2013 10:55 AM

Well done you!! I would be 'chuffed' too!!! Hehe!!

nanacc 08-11-2013 11:34 AM

Your generosity may be the beginning of a future quilting artist! Thanks for the evidence of the consideration all quilters seem to have for others!

And since you didn't tell us what "chuffed" means, I'll have to look it up too. lol

Tartan 08-11-2013 11:44 AM

It is wonderful that you have a youngster joining the group!

You should be proud of yourself.

Learned a new word today - chuffed. I just finished explaining what stuffed shirts means to my 25 y/o daughter so I guess it's a good day for learning:)

I would like to say thank you for your encouragement to this woman and her GD. Wonderful feeling to help others along the way!!

Misty's Mom 08-11-2013 11:53 AM

Very well done. Our hats are off to you.

patchsamkim 08-11-2013 12:38 PM

Love that you did this for her. Always feels so good to share our love of quilting with someone else.

And in turn in the future, the GD may start another younger person quilting. Good for you

qwkslver 08-12-2013 03:36 AM

That is so wonderful. I have a "new" DIL of about a year. She showed interest so I bought her a new Janome and she is working hard at learning to sew. She is doing a great job and I am so proud of her. I also have a granddaughter who is a crafter and trying to learn. It makes me so happy to see them learn, especially since Home Ec in school is a thing of the past.

klgls 08-12-2013 03:57 AM

Neat story and generous of you all. Well done!!

The 'Mission' of our local Quilt Guild is teaching. Another member and I hold classes once a month from Jan. to May for ladies in our community. We started with only 7 attendees, the first year and had 17 the second year. I wonder how many we will this coming year. We also teach 4H quilting. I'm in the process of quilting another quilt for one of the ladies and I've seen a huge difference in her piecing. Gives me great satisfaction.

carolynjo 08-12-2013 06:02 AM

How great that you are encouraging a young person to learn the craft. I have given machines, materials, and rulers to 4 young women so far and they are all quilters.

trolleystation 08-12-2013 07:50 AM

God will surely bless your for your kindness.

SusanSusan33 08-12-2013 08:43 AM

Awwww!! What a wonderful story!! You should be chuffed!! ;) Thanks for the smiles this morning!

mom-6 08-12-2013 08:57 AM

Awesome! You've shared the love of quilting and taught many of us a new word. Way to go!

Letty 08-12-2013 09:12 AM

Oh my, I really relate to that story, I too have found things so difficult with pain problems but ther is so much joy to pass on the knowledge to the younger generation. Good for you for your encouragement. Letty x

MargeD 08-12-2013 10:13 AM

What a great thing to do - as quilters we need to encourage anyone who expresses an interest in quilting so the craft will continue. I'm sure the lady is thrilled that her GD was showing an interest in quilting.

sylviasmom 08-12-2013 10:41 AM

By preparing special kits, you have made this new quilter feel very special. Hope she continues on her quilting journey. This is how I got my daughter started.

quiltyjax 08-12-2013 01:15 PM

Well done QuiltingaddictUK, for encouraging both Nain / Grandma and her grandaughter.

You have no idea how much, this lady has so many health problems and quilting has helped her so much in less than 2 years and her work is wonderful as she is close to be a bit OCD but her family absolutely back her to the enth and love her work but her GD most of all, it has given Ceri the GM such a thrill and feels so proud.

GrandDaughter's 1st quilt

My 12yr Granddaughter made her 1st quilt this past weekend. It was I think it's called a Pillowcase Quilt (no boarder or binding just batting & turned right side out) she had so much fun picking out fabric from my stash and lining the squares up for her design on my board. I'm going to attempt to post a couple of the "Pride" pictures I took of her.
P.S. the quilt has a 2 fold purpose 1 being it's for one of my dogs, the other it is for me to practice FMQ SITD

QultingaddictUK 08-13-2013 01:07 AM

I have ready here on the Forum so many lovely stories about you GDs learning to quilt with you but here in the UK is is not so common as so many of our Mums n GMs don't know how to use a sewing machine themselves! So sad so this is why I started my own little free sewing classes called "Sew-n-Sew". The 1st thing I do is to show them how to clean, set up their machine and change their sewing needles and when I ask what they want to sew they take one look at the other ladies sewing away at their quilts and they say I want to make one of those, and they do, it's lovely and here you can see why I enjoy it. http://s12.photobucket.com/user/madc...?sort=3&page=1

Your are a real treasure, I taught a class for U3A for some years and oh the joy in seeing people expand their skills. You are right about the youing ones not having so many older family members to pass on the craft, what a shame as Welsh quilters were so talented.Long may your teaching continue, bless you, Letty x

Letty 08-13-2013 05:36 AM

OOps, sorry about the typing errors, fingers not so good today, Lettyx

That is generous of you...

This was a fun read so far....I have missed a few days of reading this board; and seeing the "chuffed" comment made me go straight to this one first. I, too, didn't know what that meant. Learn something new every day.

I, too, am teaching a young person how to quilt, from start to finish. I sponsored a quilting get-together in May, and she was the only one who participated all the way through. I am so proud of her. She made a compete quilt, even though small; and has started a double wedding ring and is doing great on it. Doing the happy dance here.....
