After starting/not finishing several quilts, I decided to just do a simple 5" block quilt. Nothing fancy. I plan on doing a thin border before the larger border, but that's it. I just finished sewing all the squares together - and I'm surprised at how many corners don't quite line up. I was soooo careful to match it all before I sewed, even pinned carefully at each joint.... and still, some are good and some are off. Not by a huge amount, but enough. It just makes me appreciate the skill I've seen here! I was hoping that this would give me more confidence to tackle a slightly more difficult project, but now I'm wondering how I'll do! You all are amazing.

Naturalmama, just keep practicing and you WILL improve with each one. Stick to the smaller quilts (lap, sofa etc) so you don't get over-whelmed, and don't get discouraged. All of us have those early quilts where seams didn't match up, etc, but you will cherish your early quilts as time goes by and your skills improve so you have something to compare. We have all been there-keep going!

If you look carefully at some of the "perfect" quilts you'll see seams that aren't perfectly matched, or quilting that isn't perfectly even or....well, I could go on. As someone on the board said, if you can't see it while riding by on a bicycle, it's not there. Take it easy on yourself. I'll bet that the less you worry about being perfect the more perfect you'll become.

I know what you mean, my simple quilts I've made seem to be worse that some of the harder ones I tackled, go figure. I don't worry about it, I just adjust and go on.

You are not alone. Hang in there. My next thing is to place 1/4 inch masking tape on all my seams. My machine has the 1/4 seam but that doesn't mean I sew straight, try try try. I have a quilting friend whose quilts are 99%+ perfect and that is what she does.(p.s.) I do not show her my quilts!!

Just keep at it and will get easier...you might want to try hand piecing. Mark your sewing lines, and thi gives you accurate blocks and the hand sewing also helps with your hand quilting.

Thanks for all the comments! When I finally finish, I'll have to post a pic and really get your expert opinions! :)
