I have posted a couple of times but cannot get the bold letters NEW TOPIC I don't know what happened, Please excuse my ignorance, perhaps some-one could help me.

your not supposed to see the bold letters (new topic) on a topic you started. Becuase you already read that topic. ;) I however can see (new topic) in front of your topic.

Once someone responds I think it will say (new topic) in front of the subject!

Hi Rhona! You haven't done anything wrong; if you are the one who has posted it, it isn't a "NEW TOPIC" to YOU! But it did say that for me before I opened it; now it doesn't because it isn't new to me now, either.

That's probably clear as mud, sorry LOL NEW TOPIC only shows when it's a topic that's new for you. NEW POSTS only shows if a topic has posts that are new to you.
