diary do any of you keep up a diary of your quilts it has a place for pictures and little plastic pouches for sample pieces of the fabric usd for the quilts mine is from Thimbleberries...A friend of mine that quilts alot keeps a diary of all her special quilts I really this idea...I have already added my rag quilt to this and I wrote a section about how special this quilt is because it was made with Love for my Granddaughter and someday she will read this and know how Loved each stitch was just for her...shes almost 5 months old now so I have a lot of inspiration ahead of me to keep making quilts...

That sounds neat, Granny Cat - I should do that, and write down all my stories for the quilts I want to do for each of the kids. Where did you get yours from?

That's so cute. My mom got me one & hadn't used it until today. I put in the one picture I have of the first quilt I hand stitched. It's not of the whole thing, or a close up, but just to have a couple of blocks and the background fabric brings back such memories. It went to a good friend of mine from college whose daughter was born not long after a move to Oregon. They're now in Japan, so the quilt has seen more of the world than I have!! :D Someday, I think my kids will have fun going through it. Just remember to take better pix than I did :lol:

from the quilt shop I go to. but I know you can fid them through amazon to..I wanted to see one in person though so I went on a search here in my town so I could see just what all it had to offer...I wanted a place to put pictures and scraps from each quilt so I knew specifically what I was looking for...the thimbleberrie one I have is neat inside it has finished quilt pictures on each so called chapter and if you like the quilts then you can go to thimbleberries and find that pattern because they give the name of ach one...check it out and let me know what you get....

That's a great idea. I'm going to start that right away. When you make a pattern that you like, you always figure out tips to make things go faster and smoother and think that you will remember for the next time. But, I never do. Something to refer back to would be very helpful.

quilts are such herilooms and each one has so much hard work and love poured into them and I believe each one has a very unique story to tell...I have bought some from antque stores and often wondered first of all who was crazy enough to get rid of them and second who made them and how long ago and how far have they travled etc....

I just take a pic of it, and who it if for and put it on a CD. On the tag I write the date.

I started one but didn't think of adding the fabric Great idea, I am fairly new at this so still have my little bag of clippings. I put in a picture name of the block when I made it and who recieved it.

I have one. It's in my room somewhere. Probably hidden beneath some fabric

I just use a cheap scrapbook - since I am totally scrapbook-challenged, I put in a pic of the finished quilt (with its recipient if possible) and if I'm really organized, I make a pocket and put in some fabric. Oh, yeah, and the date.

I'm hopin' that instead of a funeral, all the quilts will get together (with their owners) and remember me with the same kind of feelings I had for them as I sewed their quilts. I'm also hopin' that this day is far far far in the future LOL

I don't "document" for the ones I donate, but I try to for the quilts I make for friends and such.

Great idea. Have just taken pictures of my projects so far, but writing a little piece on each one is a nice idea and putting in some fabrics as well. Yes I going to be a copy cat on that one :D

I can see the possibilities and advantages of a quilters diary. Great idea!

I take pictures of all my crafts, but never thought of a Diary. Hrmmmm good idea.

I have a diary and everytime I go in the sewing room, it gives me dirty looks cause I have a bunch of photos stuffed in it and nothing else! :lol:

I use a cheap spiral bound scrapbook that I got a Michael's. I put a picture or two of the quilt (with the recepient if it is a gift) and sometimes a fabric sample. Then I write about the quilt-
-what inspired this quilt?
-did I find the fabric first and then a pattern to go with it, or the other way around?
-what pattern I used.
-anything special about the quilt or the reason I made it for that person
-the month and year when the quilt was started and finished (sometimes that is a LONG time in between :D )
-the size of the quilt
-any other detail info I want to include

When I feel like I never accomplish anything it is fun to go back and see all the quilts (wall hangings, lap quilts, etc) that I have finished. Since I have given so many away as gifts they are not around to remind me of what I have done.

I hope that some day when I am dead and gone my grandchildren or great grandchildren may like reading about their old Grammy and what inspired her!

It is a great idea to document your work. Good luck with whatever method works best for you.

that is a fantastic idea!!! It is nice from time to time to go back and see what accomplishments we have done in our creations. At the moment, i don't have a scrapbook for my quilts.. YET that is, but I do have all my photos in a portfolio file on my laptop and CDs of everything I have made whether for myself, for friends/family, clients or donations.

Cool! I like the ideal of a quilter's diary. I have pictures of the quilts I have made but I have no idea where all the pictures are. Today the hunt for all the pictures begins to start my quilter's diary.

I don't keep an actual diary, although I may need to start. I keep a photo album with a picture of the quilt, when I made it, and who it was for. I have notebooks that I keep project ideas in where I've sometimes jotted down fabric/color ideas.

well BJ thats a quilter diary in more ways then not...at least you have pictures and who you made them for thats the main idea especially because someday someone might come across that quilt and wonder who made it and how long ago it was made etc....quilts are such heirlooms...

:twisted: ok I saw a patt for a quilted Book cover for a journal sort a thing.You make it and quilt it like a regular book cover :roll: :twisted:

I used to keep all my info in a book but then decided to put it into a flash drive. I write up what I want to say about each quilt, the name, size, date completed etc. and have another section for the photographs. What does yours look like?
