I finished a quilt I made for dad yesterday. I took pictures and put them on here, and had decided to take the advice on here and give it to dad early so he has it through his traeatment.
I had carefully prewashed the fabric before I used it so that it wouldn't run, however I forgot to pre wash the backing fabric. It had to be washed as I had used fusible batting and I needed to dissolve the glue. I put it in the washer at 30 deg and it has dyed all the white and cream blocks pink. I have tried a colour run remover and it has made no difference, so I now have to set to and make another one. Remind me never ever to forget to wash my backing fabric ever ever again. |
Before you give up, run it a couple more times with the color remover- it might help. Just be sure not to put it in the dryer if you haven't allready.

My condolences.. that has to be 100% exasperating!
Ditto to Barbara47.. try it a couple more times with the color remover sheets. |
I washed a pair of mens white shorts and turned them pink. i sprayed the heck out of them with spray and wash and just kept washing them. and it came out

I agree -- try Oxy-Clean a few times, and go ahead and give it to your Dad. Time is more important that color.
I made a quilt like this for my Dad toward the end, and he wished it could have had it sooner. I still cry when I look at that quilt, because now he is gone. Bottom line? Your Dad will love anything you have done for him, no matter what color it is. You could even try the Oxy-Clean.... later. Spending time with your Dad now is more important than making him the perfect quilt. Take it from someone who has been there. |
Try all of the suggestions and then give the quilt to your dad. Pink blocks won't change the love that went into it. You and he can have a good laugh about the story and he will appreciate it even more. Prayers for you and your dad. BTW I looked at your previous post and it's a wonderful quilt!

If you haven't dried it in a dryer, there is still hope. Hopefully someone from the UK will come up with a product available obpver there.
good luck to your dad! |
