Recently my husband and I got into collecting vintage sewing machines. I was in particular interested in a treadle and we purchased a red eye 66 treadle. My husband cleaned and fixed it and today we got the belt and the quarter inch foot in. After installing it all, I did a dry run on some paper and no thread. I got a perfect 1/4 inch and amazingly my feet seemed to know what to do because off she went forward only and at a good speed. I am trying to think back to when I grew up in Europe and my grandmother's treadle. As kids we did try to "dry" treadle. Maybe some how I remember it??? Either way I am so excited. OK off to the studio to get some fabric and thread to do some actual sewing.

What a beautiful machine! Now go make beautiful things with it!

You have a gorgeous machine and the cabinet is too! I remember using my DGD's treadle when I was a young girl and now my DM has this machine. I have a treadle, but it needs work done on it before it's working. It was my DGF's(my mom's dad).

It's a real beauty - glad to hear hubby was in on the cleaning. I'm sure there's more in your future...it's addicting and fun to see IF you can clean 'em up.

Maybe treadling is like riding a bike - you never forget!

Wow, what a beauty. I love your new baby. Have fun with her.

OH MY! She is beautiful. I am lusting after a red-eye but in the portable version. Don't have room for a treadle, but if I found one in such good condition as your and at a reasonable price, I would make the room!!
