I discovered a solution . .

I am making a quilt that has eight star points. To learn my solution to making perfect points, you will need is a 4-1/2” square and two 2-1/2” squares. You will also need a strip of “card stock-like” paper (guide) about 6” x 3” to which you have backed with surgical tape. (It is rough on one side and will hold the guide in place. I have put this tape on the back of many of my rulers and it works great.) Cheap at the dollar store wherein you get two rolls in a pack for almost nothing. Make sure the edge of the guide is straight. Later when you knick it, just trim off and continue.

Formerly we would press the small square in half diagonally or draw a line corner-to-corner as stitching lines. Tedious preparation! Now my solution! Place the 2-1/2” square in place as usual. MAKE SURE EVERYTHING LINES UP. PLACE YOUR GUIDE AT THE POINTS WITH THE LEFT HAND AND STITCH STRAIGHT CORNER TO CORNER. THESE TWO DIAGNOLS ARE HELD TOGETHER WITHOUT MOVING. YOUR POINTER FINGER PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN HOLDING PLACE WITH GUIDE WHILE STITCHING. Check your accuracy. Everything should be perfect, trim and press and add the second square and repeat

I hope this helps and is clear. Let me know.

Photos, please. I'm a visual learner. I hate making 1/2 square triangles. They are tedious. Any help with them is appreciated. It seems this might help with making them.

Baku, I have not learned to post pictures. Sorry.

Meanwhile, prepare a strip longer than the diaganol. Place it corner to corner and then stitch along the edge of the strip. Does this help?
