Great idea! I love the coloured construction paper idea because you could actually see the block design. I have been graphing blocks and using coloured pencils for ages. I am much better with visual references.

I keep a Dollar Store pak of construction paper on hand just for that reason. It has saved me many times from making some really bad mistakes.

Great ideas! I've always used graph paper & colored pencils. Will definitely purchase some construction paper. Thanks!

I like to cut coloured construction paper into the pieces without seam allowances and put them together like a puzzle. A little scotch tape and I can construct the block to see how it looks.

Great idea!!!!!!

Brilliant idea! Imagine using colored construction paper!

I like this idea. You would get a good idea of how the colors work together.

Sometimes math and I have "issues". But I so love to modify block patterns and reduce , increase , some kind of change. Any how you get the idea. Tonight after struggling with my latest modification, and looking for the right size scraps to make my test block... and not wanting to sacrifice some of my larger pieces.... I thought "what about using paper instead of fabric". It was a light bulb moment for me . I sewed my paper pieces just as I would have fabric, just to see if all really fit before cutting any "good fabric". I know this is simple and many have probably done this , but for me it was a discovery I will use again and just wanted to share.

I use graph paper & colored pencils or markers.

All good ideas. Thanks for sharing.

to try out sizes for block pieces (or for clothing muslins), I use one of those old sheets we all have in the closet that we will not use on the beds but can't bring ourselves to throw out. (These are also great for making patterns for upholstery recovering projects). After I make a block, I felt marker a swipe of color on the pieces to remember what and where.

Great idea, Tartan I will try that
