There are a few mats like that; I have two different sizes. They are great especially when trying to do triangles or any shape that you really need it to be accurate. I love my Accuquilt go but the mats are really a helpful hand as well. It's a good choice. Look for coupons; I just got the latest Joanns and Hancocks in the mail. I try to go to Hancocks on Wed because the 1st and 3rd Wed are senior discount and you don't have to be 60 and it's on top of any other discount or coupon and the 2nd is military discount so for them I have most of the month covered. Enjoy your mats

twoxover 04-11-2012 04:51 AM

thank you both Judy and Nancy! i really don't want an accuquilt go...i don't think i would use it enough....but love the idea of the rotating mat <g>. and I will keep track of my joann coupons and see what's available. unfortunatly, i'm in nj and no hancocks here (but wish that JoAnn's would do a military discount!)

Good luck. The other thing that I wish was with Joann's is that you don't have to be over 60 to enjoy senior citizen (not sure if they check) but also they don't have a set day so I've never been able to get it there. At Hancocks I go after work on those 3 Wed knowing even if it's full price I'll save money so how great is that.

I have a lazy susan I bought one time for a TV. I have put my cutting board on that and it works.

I like the idea of the lazy susan. Going to give it a try.

gollytwo 04-11-2012 01:53 PM

I had a round one from Come Quilt with Me that wore out. It got too expensive so didn't replace.
I found a 7" Fiskar square one at Joanns that's about $15. Bought 4 of them, all with coupons. Everytime I find a tool I really like either the price zooms or it goes off the market.
I was taking no chances this time.
I also have a large one by Olfa or Omni (I forget) too big, awkward.

OzarksGma 04-11-2012 03:12 PM

Olfa offers a 12" square rotating mat and there is a round one called Baltimore Revolver. I believe the Olfa mat runs around $30 and the Baltimore Rev. runs about twice the price of the Olfa.

MaggieBB 04-11-2012 03:32 PM

OH,OH, TV just lost lazy susan it is sitting on it is 24x 18. just the right size to do some serious cutting on and I have a mat to fit.

I have the Olfa one abd love it! Worth every penny. I can sit at the kitchen table and trim patches.

FranW 04-11-2012 03:48 PM

I have the two Olfa ones (12" and 17"). They are great and well worth the money.
Not long ago I questioned this board about replacing the top on the 12" rotating mat (http://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f1...t-t181860.html). Happy to report that it worked! Had an extra mat and super glued it right over the top of the very worn out one. Worked perfectly and now my rotating mat is pink!

I just looked on Amazon and they are much less expensive than some of the other sites where I have seen them. Shop around.

I saw a round, rotating cutting board from Martelli at a quilt show and paid the hefty asking price. It's got a cutting mat and underneath that a round ironing board piece that you can remove and use on the side. It's sturdy and top quality. I use it constantly and consider it, along with rotary cutters and my rulers to be my primary quilting tools. Go to the Martelli site and take a look. The price will choke you, so look for it at one of the quilt shows where they are vending.

twoxover 04-13-2012 03:10 AM

thanks leigh-i will go look. i also have a 50% off coupon for joann's....so will likely spring for the olfa one.

stchenfool 04-13-2012 04:00 AM

I too have the Olfa rotating matt - love it!

Conartist1945 04-13-2012 04:04 AM

I've heard it's called a Brooklyn Revolver

pinkberrykay 04-13-2012 04:25 AM

I love the lazy susan idea now to find one at Good Will or the Restore Store!

I recently replaced my rotating 13" cutting mat which sat to the left of my machine with a new 12". The new one works much better since I literally wore the other one out BUT I miss that inch!

SandyQuilter 04-13-2012 05:22 AM

Brooklyn Revolver, because she's from Brooklyn and it revolves.

Fabaddict 04-13-2012 05:29 AM

Brooklyn revolver?

justflyingin 04-13-2012 05:34 AM

I think the lazy susan idea is a great one. I did get a rotating mat, however, and I do like it.

sew_itnow 04-13-2012 05:47 AM

Have you asked Joann's if they will do a military discount? I think the one in Knoxville TN does.

duckydo 04-13-2012 05:50 AM

They are great made by Olfa, wonderful for cutting out anything on the diagonal

Tudey 04-13-2012 06:15 AM

Brooklyn Revolver

quiltmom04 04-13-2012 06:28 AM

Looks like I may be the only one out there, but I don't like the fact that the mat is moving. I've had it slip too many times when I cut. I prefer to use a small mat that I can physically turn, but not is on a rotating system like the Brooklyn Revolver.

Mary Britton 04-13-2012 07:36 AM

Connecting Threads has them on sale quite often too. Shipping is free with $50 order.

The round one comes from Pat Yamin at Come Quilt with Me; the Brooklyn Revolver. Pat doesn't have a store but does alot of big shows and you can order directly from her web site.

I have one & as ickhy as it works, you don't want to know what I call it! I was so amped to get it (it seems like such a great idea) but it rocks & is hard to cut on. I don't even know where it is now... I just went back to a smaller mat on top of a larger one... Just my thoughts...

sandraphippard 04-13-2012 03:01 PM

Hi,
I have the one made by Martelli.

JoAnn's does do a military discount. Just check the back 2 pages of their flyer when it is a national holiday such as Memorial Day. They usually give an extra 10 or 20% off with military id.

Greenheron 04-14-2012 11:44 AM

I got tired of struggling around the table when cutting some triangles and moved the small mat to a little, old stand. The mat stayed still and I could easily step around the stand.

Pam H 04-14-2012 02:00 PM

I have a rotating mat but it doesn't spin very smoothly. I prefer using a smaller mat on top of my larger mat and just turning the mat.

squires1042 04-15-2012 05:15 PM

Its a Brooklyn Revolver
