I must be missing something because I haven't seen any rude and tacky comments. I've just seen varying opinions and an open discussion on who does or doesn't care for the bags.
Sorry if I've missed something.

DebraK 11-20-2010 05:44 PM

you haven't. Everyone has been civil about their opinions.

I think you are mixed up. You must be posting to the wrong thread.

I didn't find the message offensive. It was a question and started a pleasant discussion. I think everyone here brings something valuable to the table, but we all have different tastes and interests.
(snip)
I am disturbed when things are put in a negative light, but I have to say I have seen very little of that in this forum. People tend to encourage each other in a positive way. I look at everything, but only comment on a few. That doesn't mean I don't appreciate what I see.

I am new to this board and have to agree with this, that most all of what I have seen posted is very positive and encouraging and supportive! Coming from knitting groups where they literally eat their own, it's been wonderful to find a group that is so supportive of each other.

Now off to find out what the heck a Bow Tuck bag is... ;o)

irma tapia 11-21-2010 07:38 AM

I agree, please STOP!!!

On the other hand, the X-bag has worked out so well for me, I think I've made 5 of them over the last couple of years. I made them seasonal. I've worn two of them out.

This board could almost use a section devoted to bags!

A section for crafts would be a good idea. There are times when ideas for crafts are appreciated(I have seen some truly beautiful items here) and it is neat to see what people are making but personaly, when I'm looking for quilts, that's what I'd like to see. A sperate craft section would also make it easier if you want craft ideas so you don't have to go through all the quilts.

I think this is a neat idea, I'd love a section on crafts. But since this is a quilting board, I guess it would have to be something related to quilting, wouldn't it? Such as 'quilted crafts.' Or maybe not, since we do have a section on comments other than quilting. I'm so confused!! 8-)

mayday 11-26-2010 10:51 AM

me too ,but don't care in the main for table runners either.

AnnaK 11-26-2010 11:32 AM

I think the main thing I like about the Bow Tucks is that you can use your very favorite fabrics and have a one of a kind purse that is yours alone. This means not everyone will like it, but it is your creation alone. I bought the pattern but have yet to make one, though I have several great fabrics in mind already. It's ok not to like Bow Tucks.

fmd36 11-26-2010 12:00 PM

Hey, I am still looking for a good hobo bag pattern. At shows I have seen them for sale and seen ladies carrying them, but it seems like the tote (in various sizes) is the big favorite. I also like the idea of a craft section ....even if it a link to blogs.

Me too! Is it worth starting a thread to ask for suggestions about hobo bag patterns? I keep searching and just can't find one that I really like.

tryitall 11-27-2010 07:26 AM

I don't get into them either.

bakermom 11-27-2010 07:46 AM

I was interested in making one until I saw one made up. while I think it is a nice bag, it really isn't for me. Same thing with the grommet bag that's so popular. i did buy the grommet pattern and started making it. Got mostly done and really didn't like it after all. set it aside for several months. DD saw it and thought it was great so I finished it and gave it to her.Again,it was a nice bag but really not what i wanted for myself. personally I also think the vera bradley bags are over-rated too. But that's me and my taste. If others like them-that's great.

thank you for posting this. They don't do anything for me either, but I thought it was just me... :)

Wow, I am surely with you. With all the neat tote patterns I think I would try something different for a change...

Well said CoriAmD and Candace. I like the quilts since this is the quilting board.

I don't know what it is. But people here in Ogden, Ut are just crazy about them. And my girlfriend is making and selling them for $40.00 each. And I get one just for asking. It will be my late Xmas present. They are cute and have lots of pockets in them. And I need lots of pockets. If you don't like them, you don't need to get one.

We didn't say we didn't like totes. We merely stated we would like to see a different pattern for a change. They do make different totes other than always the bow tucks!!!!!

qwkslver 12-27-2010 11:36 AM

I just like purses in general. It's a way I can have many different ones without spending a bunch of money. To each his own.

amandasgramma 12-27-2010 12:53 PM

Out of boredom, I made one with Christmas fabrics. I LOVE it!!!!!!! It's just the right size for me. I usually like long handles, but I know the majority of people don't. My thoughts were to make it so I could sell it if I didn't like it. Nope -- I'm keeping this one and will make another!

2pedersens 12-27-2010 01:08 PM

I happen to be one of the "like" people. I have made 20 or more but I only have one in my possession..I can't keep them because everybody that sees them wants one. I have given some away and I have sold some. I was making one last week with a group of quilting ladies and one them saw the purse before it was even done and wanted to buy it. I sold it to her today. They are fun to make and I love how each one is different.

skowron5 10-09-2012 03:19 PM

Why post if you don't like something. Just don't look at the posts.

tealfalcon 10-09-2012 03:31 PM

i think they are pretty but i just don't carry that kind of purse...i carry a black coach purse sometime a brown one...goes with everything

She didn't say she didn't like them. She said she didn't get the attraction, which is a different statement. Maybe someone could have pointed out something about the bag that she hadn't understood, and then she might have changed her mind.

I find it interesting that you revived a thread that's almost 2 years old....

Me, too, Peggi. Looks like there's a lot of this going on lately.

romanojg 10-10-2012 03:44 AM

I guess that's where personal preferrence comes into play. We all like different things in one way or the other. I personally like Coach bags but not the normal brown ones, I only get ones that I like that are different and then I only go to the outlets and get them on sale really cheap. I'm just now getting into Miche bags which my sister sells and I like their concept; you buy the base purse and then buy the shell to go on the outside. Instead of switching out purse you just take the shell off and put another on which is held on by magents. My friend has had one for a couple of yrs and they hold up well. I've seen a few homemade purses that I like and have made one that turned out nice.

teddysmom 10-10-2012 03:54 AM

Same here. I don't see what the big deal is with them. I'm more into the quilts.

nangars 01-24-2013 09:02 AM

I have made many of them for others, but I do not use a big purse these days. I have down sized to something to put my credit cards in and check book only in.

honeybee_2000 01-24-2013 09:29 AM

I dont care for them either. Guess Im just not into the bowtucks..lol

Teeler 01-24-2013 09:45 AM

As a newbie, I had to go look up "Bow Tucks" bag...but what I found was that while I wouldn't use this kind of "purse," and that I'm also not necessarily into certain "crafty" aspects of quilting, I have found that my favorite new grocery bag was not one of the flimsy ones, but one where the store created a thicker 'quilted' variety. Now that I have that one, I just saw a recent "Go Green" pattern at e-patterns, and bought that one...and KQ has a nifty tote.

I thought the only thing I might ever create was quilts. There are different types of 'quilting' that I am not fond of, but now that I'm getting more exposed to "the world of quilting," I can see that maybe there ARE crafty items that I might like, and things that I thought I didn't like I am pleasantly surprised that I do!

Thanks for the bump; newbie eyes opened!

carslo 01-24-2013 09:50 AM

I made one to expressly match the dress I wore to my daughter's "in the park" wedding. It was a nice summer purse and not hard to make. I still use it in the summer. The variey of fabrics and ease of assembly are most likely the "draw" for this style of pocketbook.

Weezy Rider 01-24-2013 05:41 PM

Man's wallet in jeans pocket. I hate carrying anything. But some of the sites for those purses also led to nice carrier bags for tablets. I have Acers, and Ipad tablet covers don't work.

Bamagal 01-24-2013 06:25 PM

[QUOTE=Jim's Gem;1896403]Good question???? I'm not a "purse" person. If I can throw my licence and stuff in my pocket, I am a happy camper. I have one purse, for every occasion.[/QUOTE

This is me exactly!!
