I use my zipper foot to top stitch the edge of the binding. Looks real neat and it gets really close to the edge .

Topstitching is just that...you stitch on the top side.

The opposite. I would put the binding on by machine on the front of the quilt then turn the binding to the back and stitch by machine and have the bobbin thread show on the front. Mostly I would hand stitch it to avoid the Ugly.
