I was going to keep it
I will jump in on the side of some interesting quilting pattern by a longarmer! I really like the quilt and often times I too don't like my quilt tops so much until they are quilted and bound. I like the way there is movement with the navy on a sea of calm creamy fabric.
Applique on top, I agree with ONE sunflower idea.
Change your attitude! This quilt top is gorgeous. Get it quilted and if you don't like it then, send it to me! froggyintexas

I agree with barny. It is a very pretty quilt. Once you quilt it I'm sure your feelings will change. Then if you still really dislike it then gift it or donate it
I think it is lovely.
Hi Misty. I think the quilt top itself is lovely but for me the thing that popped out was the borders need to be changed to frame and give definition to the quilt. I had a quilt which was very complicated (for me) and when I had the top pieced without borders I was so disappointed I just did not like it. Once the borders were on it just fell into place. I think you need to have a dark frame on the quilt. Would love to hear how the quiting goes.
I love your quilt top. Try talking to some of the LAQ's on the board about how you can make the quilt become one of your favorites. Feline Fanatic, Charisma, BeckyST, Harcapani to name just a few.
You could turn it patriotic and appliqué red stars on it.
I don't see anything wrong with it! Well done and the colors fly well together. Just get it quilted and you'll probably like it a lot.
This may be painful, but if you dislike it that much, the solution may be to give it away. It will please some one else. As witnessed by what we see on this QB, one quilter's yuck is another quilter WOW! It will warm the heart and body of someone else and release you from trying to make this one please you.
I would give it another border with one of the colors in the print fabric
If you take it to a Longarmer it will come to life . A good design would be Tickle Too in red thread.
I did a quilt for a girl , her quilt was blue and cream when I quilted it she loved it. It did come to life. Good luck |
Misty - Your quilt is really well done -it reminds me of some of the civil war quilts with muted fabrics. You should
probably not change anything but if you really want to liven it up, then I agree with Billi's suggestion. Add a floral border and fussy cut some of the flowers in the border print to appliqué in either the cream or the navy sections. I personally would simply quilt it and set it aside. If it still doesn't appeal to you then donate it or sell it on eBay. Still it is an achievement and I can understand your not wanting all that work to go to waste. Best of luck - Judy |

I think a little touch of red in it would have you liking it much more. And I agree that it will look entirely different after it is quilted. Sometimes the texture and patterns created by quilting completely transform a quilt.
How about a pop of yellow in the border followed by the dark blue?
Totally agree with all who have said to go ahead and quilt that. Love your quilt! I wouldn't add a thing except batting, a back and binding.
Nice quilting in the plain blue with a contrasting color will draw the eye to that pattern and can make the quilt secondary. Check out what Cindy Needham does.
I don't know why you hate it. I think it's very pretty.
Get it quilted and find it a new home!!!
I also vote for sunflowers or other flowers - great background for them!
What if you used it as a back for a different quilt top?
I agree with appliquing some flowers or something on it. Also, quilting designs may perk it up.
I like it. I would go ahead and finish it and then add it to my give away pile for someone who likes blue.
Quilt it with a bright dark color like red or purple in circular or swirly designs?

Ditto sunflower idea!

I think I would cut it into 4 and send the pattern going off into 4 different directions.
If it were me, I'd insert a 2" red border inside your outside border for a quick-fix and perhaps do your binding in the same red colour with a red backing fabric.
It s a gorgeous quilt and once quilted, it will look amazing! |
I think it needs a border about 2 inchs wide before the wider print border. That should make it pop!
. |
Applique something on it .. Sunflowers, bees, lady bugs etc.. Maybe that will change your mind.
I like it too! It's a really interesting geometric design. I often think about adding a few freehand appliqued flowers to one of my quilts. Maybe you might like something like that although I always go through a stage with each quilt that I question my choices. Sometimes pattern, sometimes colors, usually by the time it's done, I've come back around to liking it again. Maybe you will too but you won't know until it's done! Good Luck!
I agree add some flowers or some animals or you can do what I do when I hate one I quilt it and donate it. Someone out there will love it
It really isn't an Ugly quilt. I would applique some spring flowers on it in some bright colors. Maybe poppies or Sunflowers as someone else mentioned
I think you have a nice quilt here. I don't think of the colors as boring, but just muted or primitive. I think the others are correct that if you want to jazz it up, some elaborate quilting with a stand-out thread will do the trick.
