The binding that is!

I usually hate doing the binding. As a new quilter I have found it the most challenging part of quilting so far. I ALWAYS mess something up.

But today - I feel like I have conquered it. And what a thrill it is! I machine stitched it on the front first, but ended up joining the two ends with not enough room so it was too tight. I almost went ahead and sewed it anyways but after pinning it to the back with the bubble in the fabric...I decided I just couldn't do that. So out came my seam ripper (or in my case, handy dandy pair of tiny silver scissors) and I had to add another piece of binding on and then attach the two ends AGAIN.

But it came out right this time! I ended up machine stitching it to the back as well (I hate hand stitching) and it doesn't show much because the thread on the front just falls on the edge of the quilting part (not the binding).

Anyways, I said all that to say - I'm sooooo excited!! I just had to share! ^_^

Good for you!!!

Good job!! I have machine binded but it always looks messy. I have done some small wall hangings and hand stitched the back. It makes it look much nicer - but I don't enjoy doing it. No way would I try that on a full sized quilt!

CONGRADULATIONS!!!

I enjoy putting the binding on and hand stitching it down. A tall diet coke, my glider rocker and my favorite TV program. Life is good.

I was always dreading the binding, too, but I found this wonderful You Tube tutorial and it has made my life a lot easier!! Check it out:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=buCKs...eature=related

Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, you did it!! I enjoy the handsewing part of binding a quilt. I like to put in dvd to watch while I hand sew. It keeps my hands busy and not nibbling while watching the movie.

Please don't hate me  but the binding part is a breeze for me. I cut my bindings 2 1/4 inches, sew 1/4" seam, roll it over and glue it down with Elmers school glue. Seal it with a hot iron and then just machine stitch it down. Easy peasy. (mitering the corners) I don't even bother to pin the binding on.

I'm happy for you also. Congrat's, It makes it so much more fun to finish a quilt with binding that you feel good about doing!

Generally speaking, I enjoy handsewing. I used to do a lot of hand embroidery on my jeans and stuff, and love to watch stuff while I do it. But I don't like doing it as much with binding for some odd reason. I'm sewing tabs on the quilt (it's a wall hanging) right now and have to do that by hand, but it's not too bad 'cause they're only about and inch wide.

Binding is my most unfavorite part of quilt making.

Great job. I am so happy for you.

Congratulations! That is an accomplishment! I'm going to attempt binding with mitered corners on a baby quilt I just finished. A bit leary. I'll let you know how it goes! LOL

You might try a tool on the Fons & Porter website that is specifically made for binding. It's a little acrylic ruler that shows you exactly what length to cut the binding and exactly where to sew the two pieces together. I have used it twice now and the binding comes out perfect. I also like to do the binding - I machine sew it on the front and then hand sew to the back. Since it is the final step in my quilt (besides the label), I really enjoy it!

Congrats! I always machine back side and then hand stitch the front, takes awhile but it works for me.
