I am giving a good friend a retirement party and want to have the guests sign in. What I want to have is a wall hanging of a tree (which will be the money tree---I am going to pin the money bills to the tree) with a cobblestone walkway next to the tree sort of making a path to the end of the wall hanging. The cobblestones will be where the guests will sign their name. I am going to use landscaping skills (???) and FMQ---especially for the cobblestones. Since this is going to be a finished wall hanging, is there a type of marking pen that will be easy to write with on this wall hanging??? Any other suggestions/tips/ideas will be greatly appreciated. I know there are ideas out there---this board is amazing for helping quilters out. Thanks in advance.....

I bought a bunch of fabric pens yesterday at michaels. On sale right now for .99 so u could buy a couple different colors ! Used them before for something like that and it worked fine they had fine tips And regular.

I like Micron Pigma pens. They come in several different colors and tip sizes. After you heat set them they are permanent.

One thing to keep in mind is that fabric is not like paper. The fabric wants to move so you have to write slower and more carefully. And people who don't work with fabric don't know that. So you may want to have an extra piece that they can 'practice' on before writing on the actual wallhanging.

Your friend is lucky to have someone like you to make her such a neat keepsake!

I've been having good luck with some fabric marking pens I bought last summer at JoAnn's. If you have one in your area, look for Kids'Camp for BUSYKIDS Marvy(R) Fabric Marker, fine tip.
(I press even though label says heat set not required.)

MICRON PIGMA PENS -- they are your best bet- they are permenent, will not bleed (leave a *fuzzy edge*)are acid free and archival quality---
made for just this sort of thing.
available in arts and craft stores/sites

I've found a product by Zig that I love. You can find it in the scrapbooking section of JoAnn's. Acid-free, archival quality, etc., but the tip is more like a ballpoint and is VERY easy to write on material with.

If you iron freezer paper (cut the same size as your fabric pieces) to the back of the fabric you are using for signatures, it will give it stability. I use it for my schoolkids' crayon quilts.
