I Have My Dreamweaver--Where Do I Start?
 

I got it Friday but today is the first time I've been able to really sit down and play around with it. I've been checking out different stitches, no big deal. But what about the muvit foot? What does that do? And what is the piece that looks like a wand? What do you use the laser for?

Congradulations, looks like you will be having fun. 1st go to Brothers Dreamweaver web site, register machine, study the tutorials and have fun.

When I got my machine many years ago, the first thing I did was sew a sampler of every stitch the machine did. I kept it near for a very long time so I could look at the designs. I used very few of them, but it gave me a feel for the machine, and I felt like I knew how to operate it before the classes for new owners. It was very helpful, and gave me a feel for the machine. I recently attended a class to test drive the Janome Horizon. Although I couldn't buy it right now, I can't stop thinking about it. It is a wonderful machine!! Maybe someday.

Doesn't your dealer offer classes? My dealer wouldn't allow someone to leave the store without at least an hour of demo and then a bunch of free classes later on.

The muvit foot is similar to a walking foot that it feeds layers at an even speed the difference is you can adjust the top speed of the muvit foot which allows you to sew difficult fabrics. great for straight line quilting and sewing thick items

Laser can be used as a guide for stitching straight instead of a sewing machine gauge. the pen can be used to adjust laser position, needle position, stop position, stitch width, and to auto align you design in your embroidery field if you hoop crooked, it rotates the design perfect for you. the laser is really invaluable. I also got the sa195 which is the open toe plate for the muvit foot, it allows more visibility. the manual is pretty thorough, also there are a lot of videos on the brother website demonstrating each feature. I know you didn't buy your machine nearby so you will probably have to watch videos. I only took the embroidery portion of my class, but was able to figure most features on the machine with the manual. Don't be afraid just dive in

After watching the videos I got te impression the music is similar to a walking foot. So do you use that instead of the walking foot?
