Just concentrate on the piecing right now. The quilting can always be skipped, and you can tie the top and bottom together. Yes! So, see, totally doable!
Here, I googled it for you. https://www.google.com/search?q=how+...hrome&ie=UTF-8 |

Actually it is. I was in a sewing group where one woman was a retired engineer. Her first quilt was, shall we say, interesting? :D Its a lot harder than you think. There's a lot o precision involved in both the cutting and the stitching. And the there's the pressing . . .

Nothing like doing something to learn - sometimes it turns "as envisioned" - someitmes it turns out as "hmm, maybe there are some techniques/ processes that need some upgrading"
Even with "simple" piecing and quilting, i I still learn new things. I consider myself a skilled advanced beginner piecer. |

As for piecing my squares. I need some practice. Here is my first three blocks laid together. These were my my practice blocks only 9 more blocks to go. My centers are not aligned perfectly but the pattern is evident. I’m not done with the blocks yet. I’m planning to snow ball each corner with the opposite color. Well back to the sewing machine

You are doing great and your center block is called Hourglass, and it is a quarter square triangle block. That is actually a fairly advanced pattern for your first quilt and you are handling it well. I've been quilting 8 years and am still not getting my centers always lined up great.
Snowballing the corners is a clever idea and will add a bit more interest to your overall pattern. |
It’s a Missouri Star Quilt company pattern I saw on YouTube. I ordered the digital copy. I cut all of the squares from some Walmart fabric.

Doug, it looks great! I can't wait to see the quilt.

I have to say this group frighten me with so much information. Also this group motivated and taught me a lot. I will finish this quilt by mid March. Thanks for all of the information it will not be perfect but I would use it and I’m sure it will be useful as a retirement gift

You are doing great Doug. Keep going
