Is there a pattern(s) to use 2''-2 1/2''. I have a lady friend giving me these strip sizes, I mention. I will exclude a log cabin. Anything but that pattern. Don-isewman

The jelly roll race quilt is a quick and easy one for strips.

Neesie 03-23-2015 01:15 PM

I've used that size in Rail Fence, also.

Tartan 03-23-2015 01:22 PM

Bonnie Hunter has a lot of great scrap quilts on her site under the Free Pattern tab, maybe Boxy Stars? www.quiltville.blogspot.ca

Rail fence, the utube quilt by 3 dudes, island chain (don't recall where I found pattern for that one), the #9 mystery train scrappy in the blocks of the week and month section of this board. I've used all of these and been happy with the results.

I made a friendship braid quilt using 2 1/2 inch strips.

French braid quilts are a good choice. They are easy, straight forward with fabulous results.

You could do a scrappy Irish Chain.... using the strip method. A triple Irish Chain done scrappy can be beautiful.

Here are a few more ideas

You could make a basket weave - rail fence - strip quilt, lots of patterns for those strips.

ManiacQuilter2 03-24-2015 06:39 AM

So many quilts to choose from Don. I like the quilts from Cozy Strips as mentioned above. Here are photos off of a Google search. See if there is anything that you would find fun to make:

Don- I am currently using 2.5" strips to make a QAG, I made one on the diagonal and now I am working on a rail fence idea that may or may not work as planned, but because it is my favorite colors, and for me, I will love it either way. I am working on squares that are 12.5".

My favorite pattern for 2 1/2 strips is Boxed Squares. It is very easy, but can be impressive with lots of colors.

roserips 03-24-2015 09:30 AM

Check out the book "Noodle Soup" by Debbie Caffrey she has several books using those strips including one called Worms I think. Any way they are very fun quilts she also has some beautiful mystery quilts as well.

When all else fails and you want something quick, make a strip quilt. If you have enough strips of one color/print, you can use that for the center strip on all your blocks and make a cohesive pattern. If not, scrappy is wonderful. froggyintexas

MargeD 03-24-2015 10:39 AM

There are lots o quilt block patterns out there, where you can take 2 1/2" strips and subcut them into other shapes, squares, HST's, rectangles, etc. I would go to quilterscache.com for inspiration.

caspharm 03-24-2015 11:03 AM

Almost any of the Cozy Quilt patterns on this page: http://cozyquilt.com/Aspx/ProductList.aspx?CatID=15. Friendship braid pattern at Missouri Star.

Strip Twist at Quiltville.com, Summer In the Park at Missouri Star Quilt Company, but Bento Box is my favorite for strips!

I just finished this simple 16 Patch using 2" strips. You could easily use 2.5" strips instead.

There is a book by Quilt in a Day (Eleanor Burns) called Still Stripping After All These Years. It is their 25th anniversary book. You can probably get a used one on Amazon or Ebay. The entire book is about 2-1/2 inch strips. There are lots of patterns each in multiple sizes.

mammaduck 03-25-2015 02:25 PM
