I'm thinking about incorporating these framed pieces into a design but I want to know what the size of each frame is. The site says that the scale is:

Horizontal repeat: 14.5"
Vertical repeat 24"

So, does that mean that the repeat is from same flower type to same flower type? Or, does that mean that each frame repeats at 14.5"? If each frame is 14.5 then wouldn't the vertical repeat be 29"?

Jim's Gem 03-17-2010 04:18 PM

If they are showing a piece from salvege to salvege edges, the repeat would be 2 flowers from edge to edge. They would be 7.333" inches each. they look quite square. The Vertical repeat is 3 squares, Hmmmmm the Horizontal repeat is actually 5 squares because the 6th one is the same as the first.

Ok I got it.... the squares are 4.8 inches each. They are showing a piece measuring 29" x almost 20" piece.

Does this sound better?

Looks to me as if each block is about 8" square if they are showing the full width of fabric. Both the vertical and horizontal repeats look like 3 blocks to me (about 24" ).

Do you have a link to this fabric online? Or a manufacturer and name? Other websites with this fabric may have better information about it.

I have searched and look at several sites but haven't found any other information. Fabric.com has the striped fabric that goes with it and it shows a tape measure on the picture that the strips are 2" wide.

pittsburgpam 03-17-2010 04:32 PM

8" will be ok for what I have in mind, the pattern calls for 8 3/8" squares in the spots I am thinking of using it.

Even the 2" strips are the exact size I need for the full length vertical strips in the pattern.

Jim's Gem 03-17-2010 04:33 PM

I think they would be 4.8 inch for each flower frame, including a small piece of the "background"
14.5" divided by 3 equals 4.8333 inches and 24 divided by 5 equals 4.8"

Not always do they show a full width of fabric.

The piece is shown sideways. The right hand side is actually the "top" of the piece

pittsburgpam 03-17-2010 04:35 PM

4" would probably be ok too. I could frame them with a batik or something that coordinates with the flower.

Oh, I am usually really good at math, but this is making my head hurt. We also need to take into consideration the amount of sashing in between each of the blocks when figuring the size of the blocks. Based on Gayle's figures and the picture you have posted, I am thinking that the sashing shown is about 1/2" and that the blocks would then be 4 1/2".

Therefore, the 5 across the top row (the 6th is a repeat) would form a repeat and would measure 24 1/2" and the three blocks going down (the 4th is a repeat) would measure 14 1/2".

Jim's Gem 03-17-2010 04:37 PM

It is a pretty piece of fabric. If it was 8" repeat, the fabric would not be as "useable" if you know what I mean.

pittsburgpam 03-17-2010 04:38 PM

If they're 4.5" then I could use 4 of them in a 4-patch to make the 8 3/8" blocks I need.

Jim's Gem 03-17-2010 04:39 PM

I would think so. How many blocks do you need? How much yardage do you figure?

Jim's Gem 03-17-2010 04:40 PM

The price looks good. You can get a couple yards and not break the bank.

pittsburgpam 03-17-2010 04:55 PM

I trying to figure it up. I can use as little as 16 frames but I'm pretty sure that I want 4 blues together, 4 yellows, 4 pinks, etc. But that could always change since it's just an idea right now. I could use anything left over for borders. I would use the stripes of flowers as strips like they are and the tiny 2" framed flowers as squares.

At that price maybe 2 yards of the frames and 3 yards of the stripes so I don't have to piece the long vertical strips in the pattern.

Now I have to find Fusions or Batiks or something to go with it, graduated in each colorway.

Jim's Gem 03-17-2010 05:00 PM

Looking forward to seeing what you make with this!!!

I love fusions, have it in many different colors!!!!

pittsburgpam 03-17-2010 05:04 PM

Do you know of a site that sells FQs of fusions in each color?

Marcia 03-17-2010 05:05 PM

Okay, I went digging and came up with another web site selling this fabric. They state that the blocks are 4 1/4" square.

pittsburgpam 03-17-2010 05:08 PM

Thank you!!! I searched every which way and looked at a bunch of places and didn't find that.

It's even prettier seeing it in detail.

Marcia 03-17-2010 05:11 PM

You are so welcome. Now I am looking for some fusions FQs for you. :)

pittsburgpam 03-17-2010 05:15 PM

lol... I am looking at Fabric.com for batik or fusions in color sets. If I get my order up to $35 I get free shipping. I can always use backings too.

I have other windows open looking too.

can you call the vendor? I've had help that way before.

Jim's Gem 03-17-2010 05:22 PM

I believe Hancock's of Paducah has a lot of the fusions fabrics. It may be 1/2 yard increments though.
Also try E-Quilter.com, they carry some of the fusions.
I'm sure there are several fabric sites that carry them. I know Hancocks has them in their catalog that I oogle over every time it comes out.

Jim's Gem 03-17-2010 05:22 PM

Oops, posted twice

pittsburgpam 03-17-2010 05:36 PM

Oh yeah, I knew I saw the color sets somewhere. They have few fusions sets but they have more of the colors in solids. It's way more than I need of each color though.

Still looking.

Marcia 03-17-2010 05:38 PM

How about this site---

http://www.afabricoasis.com/KauFusions_5573.html

It looks like they may carry fat quarter bundles of the fusions, but don't currently have any. You could always call them about them.

pittsburgpam 03-17-2010 05:43 PM

Thanks, I'll take a look. They certainly seem to have a lot of the colors. Might resort to getting 1/2 yd each but I need 12 shades of each color

Can you guess what pattern with that information?

Marcia 03-17-2010 05:48 PM

And Foothill Fabric has fat quarter bundles too---but not like you are looking for.

I think I have an idea!! I have not made one of those yet but it is on my list.

Jim's Gem 03-17-2010 07:42 PM

zz-pd 03-17-2010 08:08 PM
