Ummmm....this would be why I stay at home and play with this board. There may be a good one around me and I haven't tried it to see, but I've heard too many stories just like yours, so....welcome to the quiltingboard guild...have you gotten your card for this board?

I belong to two guilds and pay a yearly fee but they are the nicest bunch of people you could ever meet. I have never had a problem such as this. You shouldn't have been charged for your first visit. That way if you didn't like what was going on you could just not go back.

I went to a guild meeting this month to "visit" to see if I wanted to join. I wasn't charged to visit. The ladies all seemed very nice. The dues are very reasonable $15 a year. This guild makes quilts to be donated to the local hospital neonatal unit, which is great and I'd like to do that.

I'm going to go back next month for another visit before I join. I don't want to be hounded for money all the time either like you said.

I think the group you went to were very rude to you. That's not the kind of group I would join. Afterall, aren't we supposed to share and learn from each other??

I think I would give the president of the guild a short phone call or email explainign how I was treated and ask for my money back. I am very sorry that you were treated like that ... By quilter's no less! The sweetest most loving people I know!

I went to a guild's night meeting and hated it, then I went to the day meeting and loved it. The women in the two meetings were so very different. Sometimes it is just as simple as that.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience at you local quilt guild. My guild is wonderful, we have over 300 people and so far every one has been really nice. By the way, welcome to the board from Southern California

I went to my guild meeting tonight, and thoroughly enjoyed it! Got all the warm fuzzies I wanted and needed from the members for my show N tell. Have been a member there off and on for nearly 20 years and love to see all the guys and gals there. The dues are reasonable and we have a guilt show every other year, one coming up this fall. I personally enjoy my guild. I am going to a Quilt show this weekend for another guild in the area. Love my guild friends.

It's so sad the this type of guild gives all of them a bad name. Some people can only feel good about their selves if they make others feel bad. So sorry these people were like that.

I am a member of 3 different guilds: New Mexico Quilters Association, the QT's and Valencia Valley Girls. NMQA charges $25 per year the other two are free. They are all great people. Once in a while someone might get a little "catty" but I just blow them off as to having a bad day. Let the board know your feelings and try again; if you get treated they same way again find another group. Ask your local quilts shops about groups in the area. You would be shocked about how many are around. Good luck and don't be discouraged......quilters are a great people. I love my quilt family.

Not all Guilds are like that. I like the one I belong to. Greant it there are some in the Guild that think they know it all and has to be done that way or no way at all. But we have a very large guild ( 100 ) and not all of them are like that. Maybe you should try another Guild or a sewing group.
