Good for you, Eddie! It's really a shame that so many of us are hesitant to join a guild (me too). You give us courage!

I joined a new quilt guild 7 years ago, but dropped out a year later because a small group in the guild sort of took it over and became rather militant about it. Many good people dropped out.

But today - 6 years later - I'm going to visit the guild and see who is there now. Hopefully enough new people are there and things have settled down. They have about 60 members.

I'll let you know what happens!

Our small guild is thrilled to get any new member. No men have joined so far, but we would welcome them. I've tried to get my husband interested in quilting (no success there). Do you have any tips for how to get more men interested in quilting?

Eddie,
You are going to just love it. There are so many people that are willing to help you when you are in a pinch. Then all the people with so many skills to inspire you. They bring in guest speakers and car pool to the shows that are out of town. Usually there is discounts at the LQS when you show your membership card. There is too many benefits to mention really. You will have a ball.

I'm so glad that you had a good experience. I've not found a "good" guild yet. I tried one, but they were stuck on machine-sewing only. Most of the members there were either retired or housewives/mothers so any meetings were on weekdays during the day.

I plan to try another one - hopefully that one will be better.

Congratulations, Eddie! Pat yourself on the back for getting up the nerve to go. I was nervous going the first time as well; I didn't know anyone! My quilt has at least a couple of guys. (one of them does LAQ and has the most wonderful computerized long arm machine I've ever seen)

I know that it must befficult to be the minority sex in any field. However my husband is a reired machinest. He knows nothing about sewing but I seek his help to hlep me figure out angles and measurments. Look at Mr FLynn and what he has accomplished. If I remember right he was a bridge builder.

You go guy and make those women jealous of all you ability and talent.
